I tried on over a dozen pairs of minimalist shoes tonight at the LRS and a couple of pairs of lightweight "regular" trainers. I wound up with Saucony Progrid Kinvara 2s. Of course, I paid more than I could find them for online, but the store manager spent an hour with me letting me try on shoes.
They are a neutral shoe that has some cushioning. The upper seems really breathable, and they are very light weight--three things I was looking for. I plan to wear them this weekend.
My friend loooves her Kinvara 2s. She just got a second pair after "auditioning" a few other shoes here and there (gotta love a good return policy) over the past few weeks.
if you like them, stock up because they just came out with the 3s so the 2s are all discounted. I just bought a new pair for $60.
the only difference between the 2s and 3s is the top of the shoe is thicker on the 3s and there is a wider version available.
i love this shoe, i should buy one more pair.
thing is, i would not want to walk a lot in this shoe. its my speedwork/racing shoe. ive done a half marathon in it, and it was fine, but for walking i would prefer something with a little cushion. JMO. still a great, fabulous shoe!
I think it's all very person-dependent, I've run a marathon in them with no problems.
i would do a marathon in them, too. walking around all day kills my feet though. which reminds me, last time i went to vegas, i bought a pair of heelys (you know, with the wheels in the heels??) it was awesome!! they make adult sizes!
It will be interesting to see how my feet feel after walking around for a few hours. I wore them for about 2 hours today, and they were fine. I'll be doing an event in the next few weeks where I could be on my feet for 10+ hours. (not walking the whole time...but just being up and around). I could potentially have 2-3 more of these events this summer, so I really hope the Saucony's are good. My Tevas are ok for 3-4 hours, and my regular walking-around running shoes are fine for 10 hours, but they are SO hot.
