My husband is some weird genius when it comes to fixing computers and he always recommends Linksys over Netgear. We have a linksys router and we have never had an issue with it.

Our current router is a netgear n-300. We've had a wide variety of routers, which have all developed similar issues to what you're describing. This is the most stable router we've ever owned. I used to be in IT and would not have recommended netgear, but this router has changed my mind.
We got the Linksys N600 a few months ago. Really pleased with it, no glitches, pretty simple set up. And it was in stock at my local WM, so I got my internet fixed within minutes of deciding I had had enough of my obnoxious, glitchy old router.

We have had net gear and. Linksys I liked the net gear best. Right now we have a westell. Sometimes they say how many devices they support around here you have to call your Internet provider to get then to change the settings.

We have a Cisco Valet. It is really easy to set up and I haven't had any problems with the signal. We have 2 phones, 1 PS3, and 2 laptops we use with it. We are often streaming or gaming on different devices at the same time and haven't have any problems. There are some parental controls and other features, but I haven't played around with them.
I would never in a million years suggest a Netgear. Linksys and Cisco are now owned by the same company so you are getting the same quality there. I would suggest a Wireless-N router, that will give you the capability of communicating with all devices with faster speed and less loss. This (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003B20F54/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i01) is what we buy for all of our work / customer builds.
ETA: I work in a software development co and am a "techie". This is my opinion so I won't kill myself if you buy a netgear.
