A coworker said her sister had a membership with one of those websites that sell discontinued/sample merchandise (I assumed RueLaLa, GiltGroupe, etc.) and they had some TB flats in a discontinued color/style asked if I wanted to order a pair along with her. I did, and they came in today.
Well, they are fake. It never even occurred to me prior to ordering them to question it because I assumed they were coming from one of those websites. I don't know what website they came from and I hate to ask because I don't want to embarrass my coworker. I'm sure she has no idea they aren't authentic.
So what would you do with the shoes? Trash them? Goodwill them? It irks me at whoever is selling them. $75 isn't a ton, but it's $75 I could have spent on non-fake cute shoes. Argh!
I would ask where she got them and try to return them. Say they don't fit or something if you don't want to embarrass her, but it's not like it's her fault necessarily. Even if you have to pay return shipping, I'd rather be out $5 for a mistake than $75 if they give you your money back.

If you thinking telling your CW the truth would embarrass her, I would do what bimbi said and try to return them, either through your CW or on your own. That sucks.
She doesn't know where they came from since her sister ordered them. Boo. And I'm pretty sure it would be like RueLaLa with no returns. Since the sister ordered them for me and had to fool with having them shipped and everything and my CW made a special trip to her sis's house after the shoes I just really don't want to ask her to send them back. She's super sweet. I guess I'll chuck them. Wish I could get the stupid logo off and just use them for brown flats. Might try that tonight.
Well I would be honest with her then, because she should let her sister know what's up. I would make sure to let her know that her efforts were appreciated, but that you are worried they are fake and don't want her to spend any more money at that store to get fake merch.

Honestly I think you should find out where they were bought and then contact the company (and let us know where so we can keep that in mind if/when purchasing from that site!) That's super messed up, all of those sites are supposed to be real. And my other thought was to do the credit card thing, that would definitely get your money back, but it sounds like your friend must have used her card so she'd need to do it.
And lastly I am really interested to know how you know they are fake? When I lived in China, I compared my real Revas to fake ones in a market and I couldn't tell the difference.
I don't think she would be embarrassed. She didn't make them. She was just hoping to get a good deal like you. Tell her the truth. Don't even mention whose fault it is because it isn't anyone's fault.
I honestly don't know that they did come from one of those sites. That was my assumption since she said her sister had a membership. You guys are making me debate telling her. I'm almost wondering if it is a fluke since she has a Coach bag from there that looks ok (though I'm not terribly familiar with Coach - I tend to be a KS fan).
I was suspicious about their authenticity when I saw the box. The label looks like glued-on copy paper and everything but the color is english, while the color is marked in another language. The TB logo is plastic-feeling as well. So I googled and found that the logo should have a leather backing that is then attached to the shoe. This logo is attached directly to the shoe with no backing. The shoe also doesn't have the "leather upper" and size marking in the right place according to the websites I looked at. I guess it's possible I could be wrong? I'm not a big TB fan-I just bought these since I figured they would be a quality leather flat.
She thought they were real, right? So she got duped too, as did her sister. I am sure they'd want to know, so I would tell her and ask her to ask her sister. I don't see the big deal about that, honestly.
I wouldn't be so sure that her sister was duped. Memberships to Ruelala, Gilt and the like are free and easy to come by, so why would she have to order them for her friends/family? Sounds like maybe sister is selling (and profiting from) counterfeits. I would ask your CW for her sister's contact info and talk to her directly.
This gives some tips on finding out if they are fake. The second one is pretty good.
As a fellow bargain-finder, I would want to know if I was buying fakes and passing them off as real to friends and family. I obviously wouldn't want to be seemed over it, but defiantly would want to know. I am sorry, though. That really sucks.
