I have a walk in master closet...nothing huge...that needs something other than whitewalls.
Our bedroom is the Perfect Taupe and the rest of our house is pretty neutral and I want to paint the closet something completely different and fun. I have two boys and a husband so this is pretty much my only space to paint something girly! My husband has given me free range to paint whatever color I want.
what colors do you like, you can do anything. I always love a sunny yellow but I'm a yellow fiend. A pale pink could be fun and girly without being too babyish if you pick carefully.
My craft closet is painted a bright royal blue with white wire shelving. If I wanted something really girl, I would put an opalescent layer over a pink, peach or lilac color.
Pick your favorite color. I'm not trying to be snarky, but the whole point of this would be something fun for you that nobody else sees. There's like 8 million directions you could go.
My closet is this lousy little sliding door-access single bar that I share with Calvin. 3/4 of my stuff is in other bedrooms because it can't fit. So I, ah, can't relate.
I do have several blue closets. Our closets were covered in that popcorn ceiling stuff so the first thing that I did when we moved in was to scrape them and paint. The blue was the only can of clearance paint they had It is a light bright blue and I have never regretted doing them even 7 years later.
I'm currently working on painting an unexpected diamond pattern on our new master closet. Similar to this wallpaper but in a bigger pattern:
I love the idea of wallpaper but once the closet system is installed it would be very difficult to remove and easier to just repaint. The colors are a mix of our master bedroom and master bathroom wall colors so it ties all three rooms together.
I wouldn't. I usually match my clothes in there and it's cave-like as it is. I'd worry about color matching. Mine is builder's ivory and I'm planning to paint it white-white this spring. I do have some art hung there. I also am toying with replacing the bare bulb light with something a little more fun.

Good point.
We had ours painted a kind of fun yellow. Yellow is not my favorite color, but it was fun to have a color behind the clothes. It definitely would have been a problem if we were trying to match colors though. Our walk in is small and dark though, and DH is used to bringing his clothes out into the bedroom to get dressed (and make sure that they match) and I mostly wear black, so it wasn't a big deal.
Speaking as someone who stuck with safe colors for most of her house and then furniture, all I can tell you is that I wish we'd had more fun with color. H tried to convince me but I was a nervous nelly and in retrospect I was wrong. So heck yea, go nuts!

I had the builder paint my walk in closet purple. It's called Dolphin Gray from Glidden. Its the same color as the half bath and I love it. DH's closet is tan like the rest of the room.

I was imagining closets my size, which are tiny and a PITA to repaint (um, the one in my old house is still the purple faux finish the entire room used to be lol). But this? Yeah, I'd totally paint this.
Go FUN! Don't care what anyone says, I'd paint it my favorite damn color in the world. (Which, personally, is purple, but it may be hot pink for you. )
Absolutely! This is an area that you can go wild - all out. I paint closets a brighter or darker version of the room's wall color. Bright yellow closet in a pale yellow room, Navy closet in a light blue bedroom, Red in a pale rose colored room. If painting a walkin closet with that much color is too much for you , try one wall or one area of the closet with a splash of color.
