We have a small, cheapie sectional (with a chaise), and ours isn't in a corner, but with or without a chaise, it is really limiting on how you can arrange a room.
The right/left thing can be limiting too, depending on the room. We use the side that extends to separate two spaces, rather than have it in a corner, but honestly, I bought it knowing that there is no other way to arrange the room. It works, but I can't even move it from the family room (great room) to the living room (small room that includes the front entry) because there is no way to make it work in there that would look right. ETA: I guess I like change things around too much to not really have that as an option. Either that or I am just bored with ours and am ready for something different.
I noticed that the house we have a bid on has a sectional, and it looks great in there, but I am thinking that I want something different this time around. We stand to have a lot more guests at the new house than we do here. I think I prefer more conversational seating arrangements that don't make you sit in an awkward L shape.

We have a long L shaped sectional from Belfort furniture. Honestly, we like it better than a couch & love seat. DH and I can both lay on it comfortably, and there's room for the pup too.
We bought this one specifically b/c of the dimentions - it suits the open floor plan too.

I am not sure if this is considered a chaise or not since it has a back cushions on both sections but we really like it. When we have guests I will put both pillows on the open end and then someone can sit with a back cushion at that open end. We are going to get a round coffee table because I think that will work better with the shape and a smaller chair with a shorter back instead of the rocking chair that will match better.
