Hi everyone...I have been lurking and decided I would come out of the woodwork and introduce myself! We just moved from Indianapolis to Nashville for my husband's job. I taught for 15 years and now find myself a (somewhat reluctant) SAHM. We have two sons...DS1 is 3 and DS2 is 6 months. I love being home with them, but at the same time I am missing my "adult" time and the feeling of productivity I got from my job. I hope to go back to work in some capacity when DS2 is a little older.
We are in the very beginning stages of building a house. We have built twice before, so are used to the headaches that can go along with the process! We are currently living in an apartment until the house is done...we hope to be in by June. We cannot get out of this apartment soon enough!
I have enjoyed looking at everyone's beautiful homes and awesome projects. I know I will have lots of questions for you all!
Welcome! We used to live in Nashville (near Brentwood). While I didn't care for the city, at least the weather will be tons better for you!
You're right about the weather! What didn't you like about Nashville? You're the first person that hasn't had great things to say about it...I'd love to hear a different perspective. So far we like it, but we were definitely ready for the change!

Hi! I'm assuming you're a Purdue grad? Me, too! I graduated in '98. Yikes...that makes me feel old!
I liked the area - the amenities, the weather, activities, all great. It's the people we both really had a problem with. Everyone there was so fake and so pretentious. Pick your set - the suburban moms, the hipsters in the old sections downtown, the music people - it didn't matter - they were all in a superficial competition with each other.
In Franklin/Brentwood/Green Hills: "Did you see how expensive my house/car/private school/vacation home is? You know, Mercedes have just become so wretchedly common that we had to buy Junior a Porsche for his first car. How else would he be able to find his car in a parking lot?"
The music business: I'm from NC and a girl I grew up with was living in Nashville the same time I was. She was in the music business, but was still her same old self. I went to her baby shower with all her music industry friends. She wore a sweet dress to her shower, like shower moms do everywhere. Do you know what all her music industry friends were wearing? To a baby shower? On a Sunday afternoon? In April? Skin-tight black LBDs, black tights, 5" black stilettos, with pompadour hair and gobs of eyeliner. Please. AYKM? You look ridiculous. Stop trying so damn hard. You're a 26 yo woman in Nashville, TN; I don't think they even wear that to baby showers in NYC, which you're obviously apeing so hard.
And I don't need to explain hipsters to you. Uuugh.
We didn't feel like there was a genuine person anywhere. I've never lived anywhere where people were SO fake and trying so hard. Fun town, lots to do, but we did NOT like the people.
