Dude...what a dick...and I mean that in a bad way, as in he's a serious asshole for making the poor girl go through all of that and not make any effort at all to make it any better for her.

And he's an employed & practicing lawyer. He's probably not poor. He definitely should have bought her a ticket or something. This whole thing just sounds strange
Yeah, it's time to turn around and go home. He should have offered to meet her in Windsor when she had trouble crossing, assuming he has his passport with him. It's time for him to make some effort here - even if that means flying back to LA to get his passport and then flying to Canada to see her.

She said he says "he understands" if she can't get across the border, and didn't offer any type of solution. WTF?! He couldn't give less of a shit about her.

That is really the only thing that bothers me about this story, as well as her original plan to stay at his cottage (but she later booked a hotel based on our opinions).
I can't really say that the 12 hour bus ride alone makes him a douche. It just depends on the specifics of how the plans were made. Maybe he mentioned that he has a cottage, and she said that she really wanted to see it, and that is why she is traveling to him. Maybe he told her the options were to fly to the airport that is a 4 hour drive from the cottage or to take a bus that brings her within 45 minutes, and she really wanted to take the bus (I can't imagine why, but it's possible). She may have enthusiastically volunteered to come to him first, and if that's the case, I don't think he's a douche for letting her travel to him if he thought that is what she really wants.
HOWEVER, when she gets to the border and is unable to cross into the US, that is the time when he needs to take some action here. He needs to meet her in Canada. If he doesn't have his passport, then he should have someone in LA with a spare key to his place get it and overnight it to him. If that's not an option, he should fly back home to get his passport, and then fly to meet her in Canada. If they have been talking for two years and if he's truly into her, he would figure out how to make this trip work since she has gone to so much trouble to meet him. If his reaction to her not being able to cross the border is to just shrug and say that is too bad, and that's it, then she needs to drop his ass.

I get that Michigan has some nice cottages since I met DH there, but it's really not worth it now. Rent a cottage if you want to see one, but don't meet a strange man at one. If he were a good guy, he'd be doing this on her terms, not his. I get that there are some poor lawyers out there too, but if he's one of those and not coming to her he's not worth it or into her.
It's been a year today since a 20 year old went missing in the college town by us. They've searched miles of lakes, woods, streets, and campus for months without any leads. Her parent's have pleaded over and over for someone to give up any info and some of her friends are claiming too drunk to remember. The Twitter account that has a constant feed of articles and retweets has been going strong and gained the attention of several celebrities. I just wish this girl would understand meeting someone like this could lead to the same outcome. There's a quarter of a million up for grabs with posters and billboards everywhere. It breaks my heart that a full year has passed with nothing for this family.

That's the one. She was getting ready to go home for the summer for a Anthro Buyer internship. She really had everything going for her. Today is 1 year and the town is still plastered with posters. The news Twitter is going crazy.
Fcg - I can't believe its been a year already. That was the scariest missing person case I've heard. It wad literally like she vanished into thin air, but there IS someone out there holding out info... I just know it. I love that town and had friends there and would frequently walk around at night and never once felt unsafe. So sad.

It's creepy now. The posters are everywhere except campus. I just saw a new one tonight. There's one friend holding out info (or they think). It's in all the papers and I'm betting #FindLaurenS and #1YearLater are the highest trending hashtags right now. It's so unreal.
Not necessarily weird as it happens on ML too from let's say a post that was seen on the bump, but mainly because most of them don't post there and it's a different website now, but ML is a talk about anything and everything. That's why it seems a little different to me.
