I need to get the guest room & bathroom together ASAP as I just found out my mom is coming for a visit (her first time seeing the new house). I'm stuck with what colors to use. The walls in both the bedroom and the bathroom are a mushroom color.
Yesterday on a whim I picked up this bedding set from Kohl's: link. I haven't taken it out of the bag yet, but the color they're calling "gray" is really more mushroom, even pushing a little toward the olive green end of the spectrum (it's more green than the walls). I'm wondering if this set is going to be too "blah" in there, and also wondering if it will look bad to have part of it be close to the wall color but not an exact match.
Any suggestions on what else might work in there? Purple would probably look nice, but I'm trying to keep it as gender-neutral as possible (maybe I should give that up?).
I also randomly picked up a white shower curtain with teal accents and a couple of coordinating towels. Is mushroom and teal as bad of an idea as I think it probably is? I'd forgotten the bathroom has mushroom walls when I bought the curtain (the rest of the bathroom is white). The bathroom definitely needs to be gender-neutral, because it is actually the one our boy/girl twins share (obviously they don't care about the color right now, but I'd prefer to have something that might work for a little bit).

My H's favorite color is purple, so I consider it a gender neutral color. I guess it depends on the shade.
Purple is the color of kings. Therefore gender neutral. (at least deep royal purples) *gavel*
I can't see kohl's images at work, so no comment there.
Mushroom and teal doesn't sound like the greatest combo ever, but I guess it depends on the shade of what you're calling mushroom. Mushroom is a neutral, so it might be fine. But if your mushroom leans toward certain undertones then it might be weird.
hey wait...speaking of teal and mushroomy neutrals - ditzydi needs to come in here. Look at her sig. Is the color of your walls similar to her DS's pants? Because I think they look fine with her dress.

ditzydi, love the pic!! The walls are sorta between the two grays in the picture. On these Ikea Dagny curtains (which I have from our old house and will probably use in the room), the top color is pretty close to the wall color:
I'm intrigued by all the votes for purple bedding! Thanks, everyone! The search continues...
