Whoopie...an entire post dedicated to framing a poncho in an old frame that used to have John's childhood art in it...which was a bright pink flower. It was cool...the flower I mean. Oh but she kept the old dingy construction paper for the background. I'd pack that thing up in the attic for the second child or donate or put it on a big ol bear or something. I'm currently in the stage of re-doing my daughter's room from a nursery to a little girls room (not a sophisticated big girls room like I keep seeing) and I'm learning so much...of what NOT to do. I feel bad because I do like YHL but this didn't need an entire post.
As my mother would say "that's uglier than a carload of assholes".
That said. DH has an old pair of "Senior Cords"- a sort of quaint and curious custom associated with southern Indiana in the 1960's- that I want to shadow box, but I'm not sure where to feature them. I considered my powder room, but I found a great vintage poster.

O.M.Geeeee, y'all! Can it get ANY worse?
Do you remember my recent thread about if the blog would get better post-book tour? Well, it has gotten even worse. Honestly, I cannot believe they can look at those pictures and think at all that the room is a success. IT IS TERRIBLE. The blog is terrible.
R.I.P., YHL. You were once a good blog. You've jumped the shark and gone downhill.

It's better than where I thought she was going. She did the whole "Clara's grown out of it and I've decided to repurpose it!" and all I could think was "If you cut up that sweet little poncho to use in some fugly collage of fabric wall art with a trim of flowers and bumblebees that you doodled and colored yourself, I swear to goodness..." I was happy all she did was frame it. I would have put it aside to use with the next kid, but whatever. I did side-eye the duct tape and the "We didn't need to scotch tape the poncho into place! Hooray!" but at least she didn't cut it up.
I thought I dreamed (nightmared) that post, apparently no, it really happened
reminds me of Ugly Betty, when Mark framed Betty's famous poncho!
I had forgotten about that! lol I (heart) Ugly Betty.
Wait-what did they use duct tape for? Construction paper? Scotch tape? Doesn't she know anything about using appropriate acid free papers and adhesives for things so that you don't damage them?
I thought the bird cages were cute, I liked them. If Clara liked birds. This room is turning into a hodge podge of crap. Red, pink, yellow, navy, white, grey, etc. AND birdcages, elephant head, giraffe head, poncho, whale tray, etc. Nothing really seems cohesive? I mean, I get that it's just a kid's room....but ick. I just hope the poor little girl likes it.
I think considering that this is YHL we are talking about, there are 1,001 worse things she could have done to that cute poncho. Poncho ORBing, anyone?
Clara's room is a hot mess. Why can't they just let a kid's room be just that? Why do they have to take their daughter's room and turn it into another one of their staged blog projects?
That blog is never going to get better. It jumped shark the day they sold their first house. They are just riding high and easy on their popularity and doing a half baked job of everything because they can. Don't forget too they have a 2nd book deal ahead of them, so that will mean lots and lots more fodder and filler.
I was thinking the same thing. This room is a total mess. Nothing cohesive about it. Too many colors (except BORING walls) and too much crap going on. The curtains are the worst.
That poor bedroom is a hot stinking mess. Just buy a hello kitty duvet and call it a day for goodness sake. The room just reeks of trying way to hard. They look foolish, as usual.

This room is killing me. Especially that bedspread. That is a blanket. Stop treating it like a comforter. Put a white duvet on that bed and fold the blanket at the foot. Ugh.
It's the worst room they've ever done.....I feel so bad for Clara! She's so cute too, I love watching their videos of her. She has the greatest little personality! I also notice how they shoved her kitchen into the corner of the room, which I find weird because it's something she love splaying with and they got her all of these things for Christmas for it and she's used to playing w/ it while they watch TV in the family room.......interesting. The bird cages don't bother me as much as the West Elm day bed as her bed, the curtains, and the blah wall color.

My guess is that YHL is turning to the thrift store and pinterest challenge as ways of increasing traffic back to their blog. Their other content HAS to be making their readership go down.
(And how predictable was that YHL/BP video? Of course they were going to make something happen out of that vacation/tour stop.)

To be honest, I haven't read their book, so I don't know how original their book ideas were, but it seems like this last year they are just getting ideas from pinterest rather then generating ideas to be pinned to pinterest - if that makes any sense.
Now HouseTweaking is pretty interesting most of the time and I like her writing style better. BP - eh, I want to read her labor story but I don't think she's a good writer. I just like birth stories and she seems a little more relaxed, but her house isn't my style at all.

Honestly, the original ideas they have had,(like their deck) have been worse than the unoriginal ideas that they execute poorly.
They are not skilled decorators, designers or diy-ers....but they do have some mad marketing skills. They were just a cute, likeable couple who started a blog and fixed up their first home and people who were in the same place in their lives could relate to the first time diy-ers, and started following them.
