My husband and I are ready to redo our kitchen on a budget. We would like to tile the floor(see snapstone post below), paint(the wallpaper is gone now, but we have painted it a light beige), and redo the kitchen cabinets. We have lived in this house since 2005 and are ready for a change! Do you have any suggestions/inspirational photos/blogs we should check out?
HELP:)
Where the crockpot is, near the sliding glass door, we do have a white dishwasher now installed. The vertical blinds are gone, andwe now have dark blue drapes.
I am not a fan of pinterest(shocking, I know), but I may just have to get over that hatred! We can't afford to get new counter tops and redo the floor(we'd much rather have a better floor!). We want to redo the cabinets, so we'd use the existing ones that are already up there. They are really good, solid cabinets, and were top of the line in 1960.
We are entering a world neither of us have ever entered--We are novices in this field!
what do you mean by redo the cabinets? paint or restain them? I would use houzz to search things you know you like such as "painted cabinets" and just collect. Once you have a bunch of kitchens go back through them and pick out common themes or details that you would like to incorporate.
I think removing the blinds is a great step, and tile is a good investment.
I would consider Rustoleum cabinet and countertop kits. I think your counters do look somewhat dated, and the kits can go a long way on a budget to updating them.
I would check the clearance section for lighting deals. I think my kitchen light looks fairly high end and I found it for $45 at Lowe's (in the bio section). I think lighting makes a huge difference in any room.
I can't get a good look at your hardware to tell if it needs updated. If it's a good shape but the finish is off you could always try spray painting it, but I'm not sure how well it will wear.
Your fridge, range, and hood are all items that you may want to look at replacing over time. Watch the scratch and dent section or check the outlet stores.
Edit: your stove looks pretty good. I don't think I'd worry about replacing that if it's functional. It seems that your hardware is pretty outdated so I'd look online for new hardware.
