Hey guys. I've been lurking around here for a bit, but I guess this is my first post, so HI! :-)
A little about me: H and I just moved from the east coast to the mid-west last month. With the COL difference, we were able to upgrade to a much larger space - and now have a ton of empty space to fill. We've moved around a lot prior to this, so I've never really put a lot of thought or effort into decorating. But with the new place, I'm on a mission to fill the empty space and actually invest time and money into decorating. We're finally purging the old, mismatched college furniture and starting to buy nicer things and finish rooms rather than just stuffing in furniture. Since it's my first go-round, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing and slightly terrified of spending money on a bunch of shit and then hating the way it all looks together.
Anyway... all that to get to the point of my post:
I am setting up one of our spare bedrooms as my "dressing room." Right now, I have this vanity in there with a tri-fold mirror on top. (I can't find the mirror on their website anymore, but it has the same dark wood finish as on the vanity and shaped similarly to this one.)
I've been searching like crazy for a stool to go with it, and I haven't found much that even half way appeals to me. Everything either looks cheap, is too tall, too expensive, or just isn't my style. I'm running out of ideas for places to look, and also not sure exactly what I'm looking for. Nothing else in our house is vintage or formal at all, so I want to try and balance the formality of the vanity with something...different. Would it be a terrible idea to go with something like this to liven it up a bit? I feel like I need something colorful, but not sure that this is it.
Any ideas for places to look, or suggestions for what you would use? I'm not opposed to a bench or chair, but ideally, I'd like to have something that swivels. I'm just getting really tired of having to hunch over in the mirror every morning. Help me, please! :-)
I think your idea to go with something 'different' is a good one....I just don't think that is the right piece for that. Besides being too short for it, it just doesn't work. If I think of something I'll post. Right now I am too tired to think.
Pretty vanity. I'd do an upholstered chair or stool in a fun fabric. Something along the lines of
Both are from www.homedecorators.com/ and are pretty affordable. The low stool is under $200, but doesn't have as many fabric options as the chair. The chair comes with a ton of options and if you find a code, it would probably be around $250.
