I've been using Tide Free for probably 10 years (at the rec of DH's dermatologist) but i'm wondering, is there a less expensive alternative that I can switch to that is just as good, to help save some money? It doesn't seem to go on sale as much as it used to.
All Free & Clear was suggested, but I guess i'm just scared to switch. Thoughts?

my mom had used All for a long while. I buy the free and clear All sometimes too (or Tide, or 7th generation...) I don't notice any differences. I prefer 7th generation just because of the "green factor". Also, FWIW my daughter also has sensitive skin/eczema.
Honestly I always come back to Tide. Ive tried the other free and clears and I end up with fading weird buildup or it doesnt clean as well. Its one thing.thats always been worth the cost to me esp. With the amount of laudry i do.

I use all Free & Clear too. I just tried the oxyactive stuff and I don't see any difference, so don't waste your money on that.
I'm going to be switching to a detergent my mom has started using when we move to the new house - at least for a bottle - to see if we like it better. www.lehmans.com/p-865-our-liquid-laundry-detergent.aspx My mom is possibly the most sensitive person in the entire world (to scents and colors and things) and she has no problem with this detergent.

In the past I've used free and clear versions from All and Wegmans. Lately I've been buying Purex because it's the cheapest, and I don't notice any difference between it and the more expensive options.

I think I've tried every free and clear detergent on the market! Including making my own for a couple years. (I used Method, All, and anything else I could find. I made my own with Fels naphtha, borax, and washing soda.) I came back to Tide (which I'd always used before I started having to use free and clear for DH's allergies).
i will also share that i'm surprised that a dermatologist recommended Tide as a brand, since it is known to cause allergeric reactions in so many people. i know very few people that use any Tide brand items. even though an ingredient company i worked for was a major part of the product, i couldn't ever use it myself b/c my skin would just crawl and itch whenever i tried. as such, in discussing it w/anyone i never came across someone that didn't share my experience.

H and I are both pretty sensitive but the Tide Free works fine for us. H actually has huge issues with the ALL brand and I hate it because it doesn't get my barn clothes clean at all. Towels and non dirty stuff it was fine, but the laundry I do nothing even comes close. Purex faded my clothes like crazy and left a huge buildup even with vinegar in the rinse. Also makes me skin crawl.

this is kinda why i like these kinds of boards. what i don't run into IRL i can see completely different from experiences of my "virtual" friends. i realy wanted to like the Tide product, since they were such a big customer of our ingredient. broke my heart to not use their products.
