I have an old sofa with wood trim. It looks similar to this.
I don't like the upholstery on mine because it's rather shiny and looks too formal. I don't want to reupholster because the fabric and cushions are in good shape, not to mention it would be so expensive.
So, I'd really love to slipcover it if possible. I just saw this picture on @holly 's blog and it looks like just what I want.
Have you seen this done before on this style of sofa? I can't get a good look at the arms and I'm not clear on how it comes together. I can sew, but I'm not sure how to tackle this. Any pictures, tutorials or info very much appreciated.
Lurker jumping in here. Miss Mustard Seed did a several part tutorial. It's a little different look than your are looking to achieve, but it might help you figure out how to do the pinning.
I also found more pictures on the blog that show the cover better.
The arms are a little different on my couch, so that's the main part that I'm iffy about. I haven't seen a slipcover on this kind of sofa before, but I really like the way it came out so I hope I can pull one together for myself too.
I made slipcovered for four chairs that were shaped similarly, and it was kind of a pita, but totally worth the effort.
The hardest part was figuring out how to make it fit nicely and still be not too difficult to take off and put on. I like those types of challenges though, so I had fun figuring it out. With the time I spent on figuring it out (I made three or four of them, so it was just the first one that took forever), I probably made $1 an hour. Maybe less.
I purposely built in some extra length for shoving the fabric in where the back and sides met the bottom, so that it would stay tucked in better when people sat on it. They have worked out well for the client. She uses them at her Pilates studio and people sit in them at her desk and in the waiting area.
