I came across a dining set on CL that I'm thinking about buying. It seems like a decent price, but the chairs need a little work (the table seems fine). The chairs are a dark cherry color (not sure what they're really made of), but in several places (mostly the arms of the arm chairs and the top edge of the side chairs, especially the middle scalloped part) the finish appears to have been rubbed off. Would this be hard to fix? I wouldn't have to sand them down and totally refinish them, would I?
This is what the chairs look like, and a close-up of the worst rub mark (seller's photos):
The set is $500 firm for the table (w/1 leaf), 4 side chairs, and 2 arm chairs. Deal or no deal?
But what concerns me is that that seems more like paint than stain. Nice furniture isn't painted, it's stained, and won't chip like that bc the finish is integrated with the wood. The mirror finish on the table is also a red flag for me - while, yes, there are some very nice tables with a mirror finish, more often than not, it's a sign of cheap furniture. I'd have to see it in person.

Thanks for the feedback; that's helpful. I think I might let the set go (even though I'd feel a little guilty since I was so interested before I saw them in person). Seems like a lot of work and not that great of a deal for a set that won't be our "forever" set. I'd also have to rent a truck to get it all home... Hmmm.
