I'm having DS' bday cake made. It has to be gluten, dairy and soy free and I just don't have the time or the knowledge to make it myself. I was quoted 77$ for a 2-layer slab cake that would serve 50 people. Is thatreasonable? It seems like a lot... It only includes basic decorating. I was thinking of doing a race car theme and she quoted me 98$ to add a race track and 2 fondant cars.
No, definitely not for Allergen free and serving 50! I spent $50 on just two smash cakes! One for her party and one for her photoshoot! I will be getting a Costco sheet cake for the guests at the party, but I wanted hers to be decorated really cute and knew it would stress me way out to do it myself!

Thanks ladies. I've never ordered a cake before so I had no idea if her quote was reasonable or not. My jaw dropped when I read the quote, guess I'm a cheapy. Now to convince DH to spend 98$ on a cake...
Like dragonmommy said, I'm going to write her back and ask if she could make a regular slab cake to serve 50 and a special smash cake that's allergen free for DS. Hopefully I can save some money doing that.
Hm... for basic decoration, yes, I think so. I cake freak. I have no reservations on cake. My wedding cake was nearly $6 a slice, lol. But for basic decoration I might try and get a quote elsewhere too.
ETA: Wait, I didn't take into all of the facts. Once realizing it was a allergen free cake and all that--yes, reasonable. I was honestly just thinking of a plain ol' white cake with nothing on it and I was like "hm..."
Any amount is more than I want to pay, but I do my own cakes. $77 doesn't seem unreasonable to me for a cake that serves 50, even if it wasn't gluten free.

Our allergen cakes that we usually get are 10inch round that serve about 30 and are usually about $80 with very basic decorating. It is worth not trying to make a safe cake that looks and tastes good for us because allergen free frosting is a nightmare in our experience.

like everyone said i think it actually sounds reasonable for the size but if the allergens are for DS I would get him his own cupcake or small smash cake that is allergen free and get the rest of the guests a traditional slab cake.
