I had a traumatizing thing happen last night. I know most of you know, but I'm emetphobic...which is the fear of vomit that also leads to obsessive thoughts. It's a legit fear that keeps me up nights. Anyway, last night Adeline was eating a quesadilla and she choked and stopped breathing. So I finger swiped, and I guess I went a bit too deep and she started vomiting. Like, a lot. It was so scary for both of us. She cried a really scared cry after, but then I put her in the tub and she was fine and happy. All night I was obsessed with thinking about how I induced her first vomiting episode of her whole life. Ugh, I can't stop thinking about the poor thing.
Also, the dogs started eating it and I kept yelling to DH to hurry up and clean it up (I was holding Adeline while she barfed on the floor) and he said to just let them eat it. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. To his credit, while this was happening he WAS getting the cleaning stuff. But I had to keep kicking the dogs away.
Ugh, I need to get this out of my brain.
Moral of the story....so glad I took that CPR class.

In the CPR class we took they said to not finger swipe?!! Man, stupid conflicting info.
Sorry you had that happen dixee that sucks. I hate vomiting too but probably just as much as most people do.
So did you have any morning sickness with your pregnancies? Do you hate vomiting yourself, or does it bother you more when other people vomit? I'm intrigued.
Dixee... I have the same phobia and it is paralyzing in those situations. I just had a crazy dream the other night that was just people vomiting over and over. I know what you mean about becoming obsessed by it too.
When M had her steroids for croup, she puked them (all over my MIL, not me) and it was all I could do to clean it up. I was shaking the whole time and felt so nauseous and absolutely obsessed by it until she was done taking her meds.
It sucks bc SOOO many movies and tv shows have puke in them, like its funny or something. Idk if that affects you also? Do you know why you have the phobia, like when it stems from?

Dude, we really do lead the same life. I also have vom dreams all the time! I did last night, as a matter of fact. I had just seen a band play and was in the backstage area and there were puke piles. There was a trail of puke droplets, but they were clear and I was jsut wearing socks. It was a nightmare, as you can imagine!
Yeah, there are some movies that I close my eyes a lot of the time because I'm anticipating the vom scene! I just watched "Flight" and watched most of the crash scene through my fingers. There was only one QUICK vom scene.

I did have MS in pregnancy. I think for me, the fear stems from being out of control so here are my thoughts:
- I didn't have the anxiety with my own MS because it seemed controllable. I could pretty much set my clock as to when I was going to vom. And I wouldn't leave my house until it happened. - I don't really mind dog vom because you know how they heave for a long time before anything comes up? That gives me warning, so I feel more in control and able to handle it.

Ok, I agree mostly with the dog vom. I can help them most of the time. This morning there was no warning and cheddar yakked on our bed while I was still asleep. It was nasty and made me unbelievably nauseous. Normally it's ok though bc you can prepare.
As far as personal vom, it makes me panic. Normally a panic attack accompanies it during and immediately after.
It makes sense though bc I believe that mine stems from: 1. Control, like you said 2. Eating a bottle of Tylenol when I was 4. I remember getting my stomach pumped and feeling like I would never. ever. stop. throwing. up.

I think they're telling people not to do the fingerswipe now, but clearly it works. lol
Sorry, Dixie! Between the choking and the vomiting, it sounds like a rough night. I'm glad she's okay.
Aw, man, my class wasn't even 3 years ago! Did they say why? I guess maybe so you don't push the food back further. THat'd make sense.
My finger swiping is always followed by (pretty violent) back slaps. I'm pretty sure that's the part that scared the puke out of Adeline.
yes they say you can push it further in. However if you can clearly see the object it's probably not such a big deal to swipe for it?
basically they tell you now to do the alternating thumps between the shoulder blades and then flip them and do chest compressions, keep this up until either they object comes out, or they become unconscious. Then, just chest compressions.
