I think that may be the vehicle I'm going to go for, but I want to know about the third row seat. Is it comfortable? It would get used for up to two hour trips sometimes, so I would like to know if my passenger would be comfortable.
I have a Highlander, I think those are just a little bigger than the Rav 4. It has a 3rd row seat but it is TINY. Like a small child could fit there, but no average sized adult can and be comfortable. And when you do have the third row up, there is no trunk space at all. I do love my Highlander though. I would think the Rav 4 would be even smaller.

We have a third row in our XC90. It is useless. The RAV4s are nice but not what I would go for if I wanted a third row. Unless there are captain seats in the middle, like on a big SUV like an Escalade, a 3rd row while you have carseats is tough in a small/mid size SUV. IMO.
I'm gunna end up with a friggin mini van aren't I. I don't want a gas guzzler is my main issue.
There are a few non mini options. I think one is the GMC Arcadia. You having more babies or something? What is this suspicious planning of a 3rd row? :-)
The third row in our Pilot was pretty useless also. No adult can fit comfortably back there for any extended period of time. And getting into the actual seat was a pain if there were car seats in the middle row. Its why we got the mini van actually...

If I ever end up with a minivan, it'll be a Sienna. Otherwise, I'd go for a Highlander or maybe a 4Runner. I'm a little bit terrified of driving big vehicles, though.
I've also heard really good things about the Acadia (with two captains seats to make the third row easily accessible and the Equinox (or Traverse).
A good friend drives an Equinox and she totally calls bullshit on the mpg claims. She fills up 2-3 times a week. I don't know much about them beyond that.

I've been looking and found that most 3rd rows are useless if you need any kind of storage. There's great storage with two rows, but once the third row is up you have nothing. I love MIL and FIL's Acadia and it still has storage space with the third row up. It's out of our price range though. We are (sadly) going to end up with a mini van though. There's just sooooo much storage.
I have a mercury mountaneer. The newer models have a third row of seats that can be folded up or down. People sitting in them do have to squeeze a little bit to get to them, but it's pretty roomy for fold up seats once you get there. I love my car and I have storage room when the seats aren't up. I was thrilled to find that the newer models had this feature because I thought I was going to have to get a bigger car in order to get more seating.
