Thanks. They are about 18x18 in size. I dimensioned them all out to fit on that particular wall because I knew I wasn't going to move them so they aren't a nice nominal size. I figured it on some scratch paper (ie. subtract 8" on the ends and 4" between frames divided by the number of frames). Since I had to get them from a frame shop I figured why not get them the perfect size right?
After I ordered my frames I found that Crate and Barrel actually used to have some very similar in a black wooden frame but it was discontinued long ago. Their version was 19x19...very similar to mine so that made me feel a little confident in my design skillz LOL. I don't know why no one carries frames like this it makes so much sense to me! But then again I'm a very practical person.
Thank you! That does help. I was going to guess they were smaller than that. I have a haphazard gallery going up my steps that I think looks cluttered. When I saw that and read you could turn the pics either way I was sold. It looks very clean and I will not have to worry about which direction the photographer decides to orientate pictures! Time to redo my stairway wall...
I am sorry to resurrect this but I finally got time to measure my wall and have a question.
Do you think that 5 - 24" x 24" frames on a staircase wall would be too massive of frames? There would be 5" at each end and between each frame.
I ask b/c I already have a family picture that is framed to that size. I dont really have anywhere else to put it b/c of its size. Will it look strange to have one frame w/out a mat and the rest of the frames matted with smaller pictures? I dont want to invest that kind of money into frames to have it not look good!
Maybe I will cut cardboard out that size and put 8x10s on them, tape them to the wall and see what I think...
I think 24x24 can definitely work. If it's a big space then a little extra matt doesn't hurt. Plus that way then you can just have the matt recut or get a new one made and keep the old frames.
I'm not sure about the large unmatted picture though. I would probably try it in the center since you have 5 and put the other 4 matted frames on both sides. But try it with some cardboard or newspaper first. That is what I did when I was trying to visualize the size of the frames along our wall. I taped them all up and figured out the spacing and size of frame I liked first.
