I wake up in the middle of the night all the time. As long as I've been asleep for at least three hours, I just take my temp then. I usually get back to sleep pretty easily, but not always for another three hours. I see a clear temp shift at O, even though I have a lot of open circles on FF. If you have OPKs, then I would recommend you use them:-) It can help a lot if your temp shift isn't as clear.
Wish there was something to help you feel better about waiting! The same thing happened to me this month...period 3 days late, and lots of BFNs. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you just ovulated late, and maybe you're pregnant:-)

agree with all of this. I also have multiple wakenings, and my sleep schedule is really out of whack due to night shifts. I have open circles too, but follow the rule of taking a temp after at least 3 hours of sleep. if you have to get up to pee, take your temp before you get up.
also for a little bit of a thread hijack, I just read your intro post and saw that you are profoundly deaf. I am legally deaf, but have retained enough hearing to communicate verbally. I know very little sign but want to learn. my husband is also hearing impaired, but it's on one side and barely noticeable. anyway, just thought that was interesting!
It probably varies person to person, but I regularly get up around 1.5 hours before my alarm goes off to feed our dogs. I get out of bed, let them outside, feed them and go back to bed. I don't take my temp until my alarm goes off. I could be an anomaly, but I still see clear low temps, temp shift, high temps. I also see similar temps on the mornings my DH handles the dogs and I sleep through it.
The only difference I really notice is on the weekends when I sleep in and don't take my temp until an hour or more later than I do on weekdays. Then they seem to be higher than they would otherwise.
So for me, it's more about when I take it, versus the amount of sleep I had before taking it and whether I got up in the night.
Just try to relax. I've had that before where I get bad nipple pain and AF shows up. It's very hard b/c you think it's a "sign". It may very well be one. Sometimes you can implant late or the test just hasn't shown a BFP yet. Fingers crossed for you!
And I wouldn't worry about peeing all night. I've gotten up to pee and forget to do my temp and it was still fine. Once I took it, then took a shower, took my temp again and it was the same. I just would make sure you don't drink anything.
I could be totally wrong about this, but here's my feeling. What you're looking for in temping is a pattern. If you're doing the same thing every day (or nearly every day), you're going to see a pattern.
If your pattern in sleeping is to sleep for three hours, pee, sleep for three hours, pee (or something like this), then just temp before you get up for your second pee-break of the night. It might not be perfect, it might not be exactly as FF directs, but it will be consistent. When you're temping at the same time each day/night, you should see a shift in temp at O regardless of what time that is.
Doe that make any sense? Try to not over-analyze each daily temp. Instead temp for two or three cycles and look for a similar pattern across those charts. I'd be willing to bet that one will show up!

That makes sense. Does it have to be during the night though? It would be so much easier if I am able to do it during, say, lunch time.
You should do it at night because it will give you the absolute most consistency. Think about how different your days are - all the things that could change your temperature (the weather, your activity level, what you're wearing, etc.). Your nighttime routine is consistent, even if not perfect by FF standards.
Also, your Basal Body Temp is what you're looking for when charting for fertility. Your BBT is the lowest temp your body reaches, and it reaches that point only by rest. If you test at lunch, you're just getting your body temp, which isn't the same thing.
So, yes, do it during the night. Your results during the day wouldn't be accurate enough to tell you anything.

Welcome!
It took me a while to get used to temping. I would wake up a lot in the night anticipating my alarm that I had set just for temping, and it was not working. So now I just temp the first time I wake up at night, and I've been sleeping a lot better, and my chart still looks ok.
pooh8402, how fun! Do you mind if I ask you questions? Do you & your H use hearing aids? Were you both born that way? My H uses hearing aids, but he is able to speak quite well.
sorry, I ran errands all day, then H and I went to dinner, and I just got back to the computer.
my H is mildly hearing impaired. enough that he can't use a phone on his left (bad) side, but really not noticeable. no hearing loss at all on his right side. he lost his hearing due to running into a brick mailbox and hitting his head when he was 8 or 9 or something like that. no aids. I lost my hearing at 17 months d/t meningitis (the infection plus the antibiotics to treat the infection which are very bad for ears), but my parents didn't discover my hearing loss until I was 5 years old. that shows how much hearing I retained and how I've adapted. I am completely deaf on my right side, and lost 60% on my left. I do wear a Phonak ITE in my left ear, and use a specialized stethoscope. I also spent 6 years in speech therapy (K-5th grade) and now most people have no idea I have an impairment unless I tell them or they notice my aid and/or stethoscope. my audiologist was honestly surprised when he did my audiogram and saw how much loss I really have, yet I have ~55% word recognition. my audiogram show enough of an impairment to declare me legally deaf in the state of Texas, which qualifies me for some benefits (the only one I've taken is a lifetime tuition waiver to any public school in TX).
