After a 3-day saga involving new flooring, some electrical, some plumbing, literally drilling a new hole for the dryer vent, etc ... today was washer dryer move-in day. We took the door off the wall, removed the door inside trim, and then carried in the washer. No problem.
Then we got to the dryer. Ummmm, it's like an inch wider than the washer. BIG problem. 3/4 inch too big to fit through the door, even with the inside trim off and the door off.
So now poor R is deconstructing the entire frame back to the STUDS, just so we can fit the dryer in the utility room. I feel terrible - this project has now extended to more work than he signed up for.
That is the worst- you think you're almost done, and something like that pops up that not only adds more work, but you have to actually undo something that's already done.
Oh no! Isn't that the story of every project, though? When H was a PM, I remember asking him if his projects at work went as much over budget as our projects at home tend to.
If it makes you feel any better, I am the person who ordered cabinets, including built-in trim around the refrigerator, then bought a refrigerator without checking the measurements. I was veerrrry lucky that it fit with <1/4" to spare.

Thanks, ladies. R is truly a hero for doing all that. What was literally supposed to be a 1/2 hour project last night (hooking up everything) turned into a 4-hour one. BUT we got the frame off, the dryer in, and R put *most* of the frame back on, shimmed it, etc ... rehung the door and everything looks the exact same. Except for where we had to cut through approximately 400 coats of paint to split the trim off, you can't even tell it was ever removed. I'll need to putty and paint the trim, though.

Also, I looked online. Our particular dryer is apparently sort of a freak of nature. The average/standard dryer is 27" wide (which would fit through the door without removing the frame.) Ours is freaking 29" - some genius at Whirlpool thought it would be a great idea to make a dryer that doesn't fit through a minimum code interior door? Ack.
