My dog has the same issue. She was soo sick for years until we went to a vet OTHER than Banfield and yet figured it out. My dog is 13 she takes a pill a day and is otherwise in pretty good health.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
Tamb, which thyroid value looks off? Darwin just had his done by hemopet (dr.dodds) and while his t4 was low, his other values came back fine. On an in house panel his t4 might have made him look hypothyroid. Hemopet is less pricey than a lot of labs and have more thyroid experience. I have the reference ranges for normal if you want me to forward. Its common for the senior panel to be inadequate to diagnose thyroid so don't panic yet.

I'm not sure. The doctor left a message and didn't specify, but I'm calling back tomorrow. She said they were going to do some other kind of test, but I'm not sure which one. So is Hemopet the lab that the vet would send the blood to for testing? I know they do send their samples off, but I don't know what lab they use.
They usually use labs likes idexx. I would specifically request hemopet; dr.doods is the authority on thyroid. Darwin had the T5 panel and it was $83+$20 for overnight shipping. I had the results back within 24 hours of them receiving the sample, emailed directly to me. I'm guessing the senior panel looks at t4 only and there are a number of reasons that could be low. Also, thyroid is very treatable, inexpensive and good long term prognosis if caught early. If Bailey isn't showing symptoms (weight gain or loss, fur loss, coat changes) its less likely he has it. If he does it would be early which is good.
He can come hang out with Willow in the "daily pill department."
Willow has both Hypothyroidism (dx May 2012) and Addisons (dx July 2012). She is 3 and and with the correct meds, you would never know there was anything wrong with her.
