Hi y'all! I went to The Container Store yesterday since they are the only ones will help design a closet. And I am came back with a huge sticker shock. My estimate is $2667 or something like that and without the installation cost! I know they just recently had 30% off (which is over) but even with that discount the items I need totalled $1800!! So is The ELfa system really worth it? The most expensive item was the gliding shoe drawers for storing flats and heels. I am like,"Yeah, not happening." All I could think was.. "I am sure there's a cheaper less expensive option on the pinterest." I am this ready to nail crown moldings on my wall for hanging heels! LOL! So you ladies have any recommendations for me for an alternative? I haven't been to Lowes or HD yet to get an estimate. We are totally willing to DIY the whole thing to keep the cost down. So if you have any closet inspiration pins with clever storage solutions to share, I would love to see them! TIA!
I'm taking my iPhone in to get the camera fixed this afternoon, but I just did a soft closet organization while I save for Elfa. I used an inexpensive Ikea dresser, shoe bins, an old roller cart, some hanging sweater organizers, and two show racks for slip flops. It's pretty functional and very inexpensive.
I just had someone come out from a LS deal and do our closet, it ended up being 900 total. Do you have any local places you can call to come give you an estimate?
Yeah those systems get expensive. Our quote from California Closets was $6K for just two sets of drawers, some shelving, and a couple rods! Easy Closets was only a little better at $4K. Our walk in closet is 11.5' x 6.5' so really only wide enough for hanging on one side.
With those prices we decided to competely DIY everything. It will be stain grade plywood and solid wood edging. Each part is built as a box that sits on top of another box (ie. the drawer sections are drawers on the bottom and shelving on the top). It's going to be a lot of work but well worth it for the cost savings and functionality. We need the drawers in the closet because with the new master bedroom we can only have one dresser.

I'd love to see the soft closet! I am looking forward to your camera getting fixed!
I am definitely going to check out Lowes and HD tonight and see what my options are. The room is not a regular box shape. Instead I have one of those converted space above the garage. It's built afterward so there is no vent which makes this a VERY cold room. I plan on putting a space heater in there. Oh and all the walls are knotted pine, even the ceiling! It has no windows and is very dark! I am thinking about painting it white or some other bright color.
We did a Rubbermaid one and I really like it. It has a rail you install horizontal into studs. Standards hang off of it and then yoi can attach rods, shelves and baskets. We did the wire ones, but it is also offered with melamine shelves. I am going to replace our full melamine ones in our closet with these someday. It is in DDs room and I have rearranged it a few times as she grows and has different needs.
I would put Elfa in every closet in my house. Love that stuff.
I only buy it when they have the 30% off sale, and you can definitely install it yourself. It is super easy.
IIRC, the Container Store also has times where you get a 20% bump on gift cards. So buy $500, and get an extra $100. Yes it is still expensive, but it is a way to cut a few hundred dollars off the price.
