My daughter has the most beautiful and thickest head of hair I have ever seen. I've very jealous of it, and have no idea how she got it because both her Dad and I have the world's thinnest hair.
Is there ANYTHING out there to help thicken hair up? Mousse doesn't help (it frizzes my hair out). Mine is so disgustingly thin and I have to keep it cut in a bit of a bob to even give it any sort of style since it's so limp. It's a bit depressing.

Has it always been this way or has it changed recently? If it's recent you might want to check with a doctor to make sure there are no health or Rx related issues.
Mine is also very fine & thin. I have a cut similar to your siggy (but fewer bangs because I don't have enough hair!) and I find that this style or other short styles are best. When it's long it just looks stringy and limp.
Do you color your hair? When I colored mine it seemed to "plump" it up a bit.
I haven't tried these, but I hear good things about the John Frieda volumizing products. They might be worth a shot.

I have a good amount of think hair, but it never looked really full and healthy until I went sulfate free with a salon quality product. I also experimented with a lot of cuts and found that layering, precision cutting, and a great stylist helped make a huge difference. Try something like the Hair One Mav suggested. If that doesn't work look into better products and a better stylist. I really believe that you truly do get what you pay for when it comes to hair care.
Also, washing every couple of days instead of every day helps too. Product including shampoo and condititoner can weigh hair down especially when washing daily, even if you don't use anything else. I also find that using dry shampoo on just washed dry hair can help rough it up and give you extra volume. Try corn starch if you don't want to commit to a better brand. I really like Alterna Caviar, Ojon Powder, or even corn starch. I find the aerosols just feel like no hold hair spray. Pssst and Batiste are the only aerosols I use, but they mainly only come out for travel.

I color my hair (no higlights, just straight up coloring) about every 5 weeks.
My hair has been pretty thin all of my life, but it seems worse after having two kids. I can't let it grow past my shoulders, otherwise it's a hot mess and looks stringy and gross.

Does it take time for your hair to get used to not washing it daily? If I don't wash it each day, it looks like my hair is matted to my head. I've tried using dry shampoo, but it definitely does NOT help.
Have you had your thyroid checked? Mine went wonky after having kids and I was experiencing hair loss/fallout. It is much better now that I'm taking meds for my thyroid.
Former city girl - same question for you magnolia! - when you say you have a lot of fine hair, can you tell me - when you pull your hair back into a pony tail, how much is in your grip? I think it gets confusing when people say they have a lot of fine hair. I've been told that too but then Veronika says that, and that girl has thick hair! LOL! Maybe the strands are individually fine but overall her hair is still thick. So I was just curious what category you fall into. Like, when I pull my hair back, I have about a nickle's width in my hand. And that is being generous. lol.
Anyway! Quorra, I would look into ways to make it LOOK thicker, like maybe even some teasing. Check out the small things blog, she shows how to do this and it can really help... same with a good product.
to answer your question about not washing it daily: yes it does take some time. I thought my hair was combination (oily scalp, dry ends). based on the recommendations I got here, I stopped washing my hair daily about a year ago. I first started with every other day, and using baby powder the day I didn't wash (I think baby powder works better than any dry shampoo but it does show up on dark hair, so use it sparingly). over time, my hair started looking good on the "off" day without powder. then I pushed it to every 3 days instead of every other. now I can go every 3 days easily, using dry shampoo on the third day (clarification: day 1 is the day I shampoo). I experimented with a few different dry shampoos because I was getting tired of baby powder making me look gray. I prefer Suave's dry shampoo.
I am also a "fine hair but a lot of it" type. my individual strands of hair are fine, but my ponytail is probably 3/4" in diameter. a wrist-sized ponytail holder goes around my hair 3 times and holds it securely. I am also fortunate to have wavy hair which adds some bulk to the ends, but it is heavy so it pulls down my hair at the crown (I have a lovely "triangle" effect where my hair is flat at the crown and bulky/big at the shoulders).

It took some time, but I would experiement mainly on weekends and holidays. Finding the right dry shampoo and going sulfate free made it easier for me. I wash about 2-3 times a week now and seem to have fewer issues. I stay away from drugstore dry shampoos and shampoos in general since they seem to make my hair worse. DH even notices a difference in my hair when I try to switch to low end products. Loreal Everpure gets a lot of recs, but I believe it still has sulfates and was never impressed. I stay away from Suave, Tresemme, and brands like that too.
I would also have your thryoid checked. Getting that done helped me as well. I lose a ton of hair, but it seemed to lessen when we found my thyroid issues and I got the meds.
