Do I need a specific cream, or can I just use something like Aquaphor, or even my standard body lotion (Cetaphil)? Do you have to wipe it off before breastfeeding? Also, any recommendations? I've seen several people mention Motherlove and Earth Mama Angel Baby - are those better than a standard lanolin-type cream like Lansinoh?
Also, did you know that if you start searching for this item on Amazon, "nipple clamps" is the first thing that pops up? LOL.
The earth mama angel baby nipple butter is edible, so no need to wash it off. It worked nicely for me, but I can't compare it as I never tried anything else...I guess that's a good sign in and of itself that I didn't feel the need to try something else
I'm not a fan of lanolin, it's often not sourced humanely from the sheep it comes from. I loved Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple cream. Smelled great, worked great, and you do not have to wash it off before nursing. I think DS kinda liked it!
I loved motherlove nipple cream. If you really want to try lanolin, I preferred the Medela brand. It's more liquid-like than other brands so it glides on smoother. Nipple cream isn't expensive ($8-10 and a little tube will last forever) so I'd pick up at least one to have on hand.

Mother Love is so much smoother than the lanolin. My 2nd kid had a super hard latch and cracked my nipples really badly and regular lanolin ripped the scabs open. The Mother Love was like a gift from heaven.
I used medela lanolin for the first two weeks. A little sample would have been enough. The tube I bought is enough for me to have a Duaggarly amount of babies.
I had a winter baby and a spring baby. I was annoyed by the lansinoh cream in the winter and loved it in the spring. The difference in viscosity due to the temperature was unbelievable. I thought at first that they had changed their formula.

Yup. I had most of a tube of lanolin left over after DS1, then bought a new one before I had DS2 b/c I wasn't sure where the old one was. Then I found the old one. And it turned out that my nipples were such old pros by the time DS2 came, I never used or needed nipple cream with him. So now I have almost two tubes of lanolin waiting for DS3 that I probably won't need.
