I want to get rid of the tv above my fireplace. We have 3 other tv's in the house and just never use it.
There are cable and electrical outlets behind the tv. The shelf is 22" deep from the edge of the mantle. There is a foot between the back and the edge of the top shelf. The height of the mantle to the top shelf is 28.5".
I thought of hanging art there but have no idea how to make it work with the decorative shelving. It is too deep.
I think that would look OK, but not sure if it would die being right above a fireplace? I could do fake plant but I've never found one I liked.
I guess I could put a big hurricane vase filled with something up there. But not sure if it's tall enough for that, given the width. And you'd still see the outlets behind.
I would remove the shelf and put some art in there. A painting would cover the cable and electric.
Or you could put a mirror in there and put art/sculpture or decorative items on the mantel.
I think a painting would not look good because the mantle is so deep? A mirror I could get my thoughts around because I could put something else in front of it.
I also thought of painting some mdf to match and putting up to hide the outlets, but I was thinking if how I could cover up the space completely and hang art at the front. I could not figure out how to make that work.
Thanks everyone, I'll post a update once I get around to doing something!
If you want the recess gone completely that should be an easy enough project to hire someone to do with new drywall. If you don't want to get rid of it, then I think art or a mirror with other stuff in front would look good too.
