Anyone use it? Which is the best way to do it, in the washing machine or the sink? I feel like the washing machine would be easier but I worry that it might leave residue and bleed onto future loads.
I hate Rit dye - it doesn't stay well. It just keeps bleeding and bleeding until it's gone. At least that was my experience. I use Dylon dye and have had great success with it. I've used the washer method with Dylon and never had any issues with it bleeding or getting on another of clothes. If you can get Dylon instead I would. I've gotten it at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Joanns.

I'm not a fan of RIT either. I get Dylon as well from Joanns and had good results with that. I've always done it in sink but it usually has a touch of uneven results. Probably because I'm too lazy to sit there and stir it constantly for 30 mins. I've always been scared to do the washer too, but it probably gives better results.
I used it when I made a few scarves out of gauze. I did it in a bowl (the washer weirded me out, too) but since I gave them away as gifts, I don't know how well the dye held.
It depends on what you are using it for. I use rit for nylon items, when I don't have time to order better dye from dharmatrading.com , but that's all. I normally dye that on the stove or in a pot of hot water in the sink, because it dyes so quickly. The liquid ois easier to get mixed well...sometimes the powdered stuff doesn't dissolve well and is a pita.
I normally rinse items in the sink, but run them through the washer to rinse thoroughly. I run the washer with bleach after that to make sure that there isn't any residue, and I haven't had any issues with bleeding or spreading the dye to other clothes.
