We have a game table area in our living room and I'm having bench cushions made using this fabric.
It has a very subtle stripe to it, and for the custom cushions the stripe will run vertically (so opposite the length of the cushion.
I bought some extra fabric to recover a shoe bench we have near our entry, but didn't calculate right so I either have to order more fabric or have the fabric on the shoe bench run horizontally. Here is a photo of the game table area, taken from the shoe bench (sorry it's so dark - camera phone). And another photo of the shoe bench. Would you go ahead and run the fabric in opposite directions on the shoe bench since they aren't right next to each other? Or order more? I'm leaning towards ordering more because I'm worried it will bother me, but I also really want to get going on redoing the shoe bench! And FWIW the game table area will also have colorful throw pillows so maybe the stripe won't be as noticeable?

Follow up question - we're going to add two chairs to the table. They're just simple Ikea wood chairs so I'm going to add a cushion. DH thinks the fabric should match the bench cushion. I'm wondering about covering the chairs with a fabric from one of the throw pillows we'll be adding. If we go with the bench cushion fabric then my earlier question is moot as we'll need to order more fabric anyway.
I'm not totally clear on which directions "vertical" and "horizontal" are, but I think the stripes are subtle enough that it won't make too much difference in the overall look.
I also think the room could use some more bright colors, so I would lean toward recovering the chairs in the same fabric as the throw pillows.

That is what I was thinking. We don't want bright colors, but it does need more color and pattern. Ended up going to Joann's and finding some fabric for throw pillows. I'm going to use one of the fabrics for the chairs.
