I'm in week 10 of 16 of marathon training and everything's been going great. Yesterday, my plan called for a 7-miler which I did on the TM at my gym. After, I took a quick shower and took my kids to our kid's museum (I changed to TOMS). As we were walking around my foot started hurting and all the walking led to really bad pain on the outside edge of my foot. It hurt the rest of the night and unfortunately, I woke up this morning to continued pain.
Dr. Google says it may be peroneal tendonitis? Anyone with experience or advice? This is a step-back week so I'm not terribly concerned with missing some miles this week but next week, we build again and I'm concerned that I'll be in trouble if I can't get back on schedule within a week. This is my first marathon.
Right now, I've got my foot in a epsom salt bath. I've taken an anti-inflammatory. I'll do ice later. Help!
You've already done everything I would suggest. I'm finding that increasing mileage is just hard on joints and sometimes there are aches and pains.
I would not jump to the conclusion that you "have" any particular flavor of tendonitis after pain following one run. I'd just take care of it as you planned and see how it goes. The flare up may just quiet down.

I was DX'd with it back in November by my podiatrist. He told me to rest it, take Ibuprofin (and he gave me a script for an anti-inflammatory cream to use instead that has to be put on 3-4 times a day), and use a heating pad on it at night. The pain was subsiding before I went to see him (took me about a week to suck it up and go), and was getting much better within a few more days of treatment. He did say I could do elliptical and bike, but I found the elliptical bothered it at first, so stuck with the bike.
