Hi there! We are having a house built which will be complete in mid/late summer. I am thinking ahead to our landscaping options. I am in Michigan and we are zone 6.
The house is north facing which means mostly shade. Right now, we live in a East facing house so plenty of sun in the front, especially in the morning. I have a Siberian peashrub tree on the side/corner of the house (southside corner) with perinial phlox around it. I would like to replicate this in the house. I haven't looked to see if the tree (which I love but am not sure if I want to go with another one) or phlox will tolerate mostly shade.
My question is I would like to know what kind of plants and smaller trees are shade tolerant that I can use in landscaping of the front house to see what my options are.
Thank you!
ETA: Specifically, if there are any shade tolerant flower options.

This is the peashrub tree and phlox I have at our house now. Not sure what the other ground cover is but it blooms tiny purple flowers from Spring to late summer.
In the new house the phlox will surround the tree in a more organized way.

As a general rule, small native trees tolerate shade. This is because they have all evolved in the understory beneath the larger trees. Most of them do well in partial sun. The notable exceptions to this are man-made trees that haven't been evolving in nature for thousands of years.
The Phlox that comes to mind for shade is Phlox divaricata (Woodland Phlox). Google to see what it looks like. In fact, you can google your whole question and get excellent plant recommendations for your zone. You have lots of options.
