One year portraits are kind of a big deal in my family. My grandmother had a wall in her house with professional photos all of her children, step-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at a year old, and even though she passed away last February, my mom is keeping the wall going. We're talking three generations spanning almost 70 years (Alex will be photo #21), and I don't want to screw it up!
These will be the first professional photos we have ever done for Alex, and I have NO idea what I want them to look like. I'm leaning away from any kind of prop (I think I'm the only one holding something in my photo... I think it was a daisy), but I don't want to go with just Alex in front of a white screen look either. Since it is spring I was thinking maybe an outdoors photo?
And then there is the whole clothes issue. He needs to have some on, and preferably something more ensemble-ly than jeans and his Hulk onsie (DH's idea), but seriously I'm at a loss.
I see tons of things I love for little girls... why is it so hard for me to dress a little boy?!?
I think outdoor photos are always nice! Inside can look more formal though if you want to match the other photos.
I like some J&J stuff, but I'm not sold on all of the super-plaid prep look. I guess I'm looking for something classic that will age well in the photos and not look too dated as the years go by (I don't want to be the mom that dressed her kid in the 2013 equivalent of a velveteen suit with butterfly collar. Not that there is anything wrong with that...)
Here's my pick from Old Navy (though I like overalls too, I LOVE ears on baby things)
Now see, that looks like something he would wear. I'm not sure if it is right for the picture, but I'm totally going to bookmark it for a future shopping trip :-)
I really like the button down look, I think it's pretty classic and timeless without being super formal. We're doing a plaid button down onesie (I think it's osh kosh) with khaki cargos.
I'm in love with so many of these! Thanks ladies--I sincerely appreciate all the help. I'm probably over thinking this just a tad anyway. I'm sure my family will be thrilled with whatever we choose, but I feel like I only have one shot at this and I don't want to screw it up! I'm thinking I might look for a package where we can do an outfit change so there is a better chance to get something we love.
(and Trudy, I'm a sucker for little cardis. Alex has a handful in his closet!)
