I volunteered last week for packet pickup for Way Too Cool 50k. Today I got around to checking the results - the winner (Max King) finished in 3:08:50. So I did the calculations - that's a 6:04 pace. For 31 miles. Holy cannoli - I'm all agog over here.
Someone reassure me that he's not technically human ...

My husband was driving through Cool, CA last weekend doing some gold prospecting. I will have to tell him about this!
Complete freaks of nature. I recently did a relay for a 55 miler, but of course there were individuals running it as an ultra as well. It was 11 loops, & each loop included 2 big bridges & 1 big, long, ramp. The winner still held an 8:00 pace for 55 miles, 22 bridges, & 11 steep ramps.

Whew! Thanks for reinforcing that. I'll add to the shock - this is not a normal road race. He maintained that pace on a VERY hilly trail. He was like an hour in front of the 1st place woman.

I was there (spectating)! When he came through the 8 mile aid station in 48 minutes everyone was like "no way can he keep that up" but he did! And that course climbs over 4000 ft! Also, re: the first woman. She's 51 years old!

WHOA, you were there? Spectating for someone specific or just from the area and an "athletic supporter?"

Yep! 5 friends (all from the Bay Area like me) were running
