our bathroom was probably remodeled in the late 80's - early 90's and is fugly. here are pics from before we bought the house:
what can I do to make it look better? we are planning on gutting it and redoing it in the next year or so, but now with our kitchen looking great, our bathroom is leaving a lot to be desired and doesn't go with the rest of the house AT ALL. don't plan on painting until we redo it, so walls will stay white.
so, do I embrace the salmon and get a shower curtain with that color? do I pull out the little bit of teal? do I stick with all white?
options I like, and could be used once we redo the bathroom:
(the one on the right)
haven't been able to find anything with salmon/coral in it that I like.
or do I just do a plain white waffle knit curtain?
I would embrace the teal, or hide it, especially since its only in the shower. I like the first curtain you showed, but a white waffle would work with some teal accents in towels or stuff on the counter. Plus having some kind of curtain will reduce the amount of salmon you see.
I had a condo with the same salmon tile and those ugly cream laminate type cabinets, and went with a fun polka dotted curtain that had a variety of colors in it. I went with purple (think lilac or a soft purple) and a deep purple towels. I don't think that would work with the teal though.
the tiles in our bath are painted. the tub is too. the tiles have held up great, the tub had to be redone recently. This isn't a DIY, it's sprayed on buy one of those tub refinisher companies. I mean I think they sell a DIY, but I wouldn't go that route.
that would be the best way IMO to just be rid of the 80s look. I think I could live with that bathroom just fine with white tiles.
I don't think it would be very expensive to do either. It's great too not having any grout to clean!
I was going to suggest having all the tile reglazed white too, but if you're planning to gut it in less than a year, I wouldn't bother.
This. Also, I really like the first curtain you posted but think white would be better. You can do something with texture like waffle weave or seersucker.
I like the first curtain. We had (and still have one) awful 70's colored bathrooms. We just went with it until we could save up enough to redo the bathroom how we wanted because we knew we wanted to rearrange and expand the bathrooms. I'm glad we didn't sink money into something we knew we'd be changing.
I've thought about reglazing, but I don't want to spend any money since we'll be ripping it all out in the future. so I think I'll go with a white curtain for now and hide as much of the salmon as possible.

Since you are going to rip it out, having it re glazed would be money (literally) down the drain, but the diy stuff wouldn't be so bad.
It is a cheap fix that would last at least until you rip out the other, and in the meantime, you would feel better about the space.
