I have a 10K planned for the 4th of May. There is a local half on the 16th of June. Will I be able to up my km in enough time to do the half? I currently run 3 x 8k a week, and I was going to start upping the distance for one of those runs this week. I do have 2 weeks before the May run where I won't get a long run in. I have never run over 13k and I haven't run over 8K since September last year. The 1/2 time estimate is 2 hr 40 min. I'm concerned I'm going to have to ramp up my kms and get injured (I've had PF and ITB issues in the past)
So sign up for the half or wait? Any suggestions on how to get the distances up in that time period, or am I being conservative?
You should take a look at the Hal Higdon Beginner Half Plan, count the weeks back from your half to see where you would need to start the plan from. If you feel like you are capable of doing the first week that you would need to do (like if the plan is 14 weeks long, but the race is 12 weeks out, you would need to start in week 3) then go for it. If not, maybe there is a different half a little bit later in the year.
Ok this is how dense I am, I was counting the weeks from the 10K not the weeks from now! I'm pretty much at week 5 of the 12 week plan (novice)and by the May race I will be at week 9 so maybe I'm overestimating how much running I need to get in?
