I'm doing the Get Lucky 7k in Chicago. It's my first race ever actually. I'm excited, but pretty nervous because I was really sick (as in fever, swollen tonsils, chills, body aches/pain) last Thursday through Monday (still not completely recovered actually), so that really knocked out the last leg of my training before this race. I know a 7k isn't far, but I'm still nervous (I've never even done a 5k).
I think I need some encouragement. I won't have anyone there cheering me on. My husband seems skeptical that I'm going to finish or not really struggle so I'm feeling a bit down.
Soleil, if your fever and aches are gone, I bet you will do fine! And ain't no shame in taking some walk breaks! It's your first race and no matter what, you will set a personal record, so that's something to look forward to.
Eh. I'm not braving it Between the logistics (DH is working until 3am) and the weather, and my Achilles killing me this week, I will be celebrating a St. Paddy's Day w/e DNS. I'm taking a running break, and will probably need to suck it up and see a doctor.
Good luck racers! I'm looking forward to all the race reports.
sorry cinco. hope your achilles feels better soon.

I'm sure you'll do awesome!! I'm going to my race Sunday solo too, and I almost prefer solo races! Then I can just slip through the crowd w/o worrying about entertaining anyone or being distracted by small talk. I just go, put on my headphones and focus! GL GL GL!! You'll do great! And ditto pp, ain't no shame in a walk break (or 3)

You'll be fine! I'm sorry that your husband isn't being supportive, that sucks!

I've raced solo a few times and there is a ton of support out on the course. I am doing my race tomorrow solo - I will cheer you on from my Get Lucky location
Good luck everyone!!! I waited too long to register for the Shamrock race here and I'm too cheap to pay an extra $10.
Also, I'd like to take some liberties with the Irish Blessing: May the road be gradually downhill for you May the wind be always at your back May the sun hide behind cloud cover And may God grant you the PR you have earned

Registration for next year opens next week I have a code around here from the expo. When I find it again, I can send it to you! I'm definitely putting this one on the list again for next year!

There are three bakeries with Irish themed cupcakes - I'm going on a hunt this afternoon to find the best one My fav. fuel for long runs is a big burger and fries. I was thinking of trying the Baker's Crust that was in our Virtual GOody bag. What corral are you in? I'm getting ready for the 8K now!

I'm in corral 7 :-) I got cupcakes from just cupcakes out on laskin rd. I'm saving it for tomorrow, so I don't know how they are yet, but they look tasty!
My race was pretty good! I was running well until mile 3, then I got the cramp from hell, so I ended up doing a sort of awkward hobble/run/walk thing to mile 4. I finished in 52:33, so I'm happy that I at least finished in under an hour! It was really cold and windy but still fun.
