Do you guys know if it's a thing to just go for one session?
I have a herniated disc in my neck and because of muscle compenstation, my neck is constantly spasming. Right now, it's really bad, though.
When I went to PT before, it was just heat and massage. But it was for 6 weeks straight. I don't need 6 weeks for this chronic condition. I need a freaking massage. But PT is $35 and a massage is $70. And, I can use sick leave for PT, but not for a massage.

You will need to go to your doctor and have him write a script for PT if he can determine a medical reason for it. Then you go to a rehab center and get evaluated. They determine the plan of care and send it back to the doctor's office for certification.
I have seen people just get the eval and be done but I don't actually see the charts to know why they didn't receive more therapy.
All said and done, it could take up to two weeks depending how quickly your doctor moves on this. I personally would just pay for the massage if you want it quickly. I'm sure a herniated disc is a very valid reason for PT.

I should probably call my neurologist anyway. I'm supposed to be getting MRIs every 6m, but I haven't gotten one in 3 years. Whoops.
Thanks guys!
I do have a GC for a massage so I'll probably schedule that for next week. But for the long run, I need to get a treating relationship with a new PT since mine moved to TX!

What about a chiro that does ART massage? I believe on some insurance plans while PT requires a doc referral chiro strangely does not.
I was told by a few of my providers that because of the level of my herniation and where the impingement is, I shouldn't see a chiro. But I do know lots of people have good luck with them!

I've never been to a chiro myself but I remember seeing on my insurance once that they don't require a referral which I thought was strange!
I'm kind of scared of chiros with the back cracking and such. Though I have considered trying to find one that would let me come just for a deep massage/ART without any back cracking so I could pay only the co-pay amount from insurance!

I might have to look into this! My neuro is super young and seems to be pretty knowledgabe about "alternative" therapies (uh, other than drugs), so maybe I'll ask her.
