So we are building a house and renting in the meantime. The rental has been a nightmare. We had rats under the house so they took out the insulation "until the rats were gone" but they never tackled the rat issue so they never went away and the insulation was never replaced. This winter our heating bill has averaged $500 which is much, much higher than we have paid before, especially considering we are in western WA where the winters are hardly even bad. We also have a dryer vent issue so the dryer has to be pulled out from the wall to work and when it is pulled out, we cannot access the garage. If we push is back in, the vent often pops off the wall unknowingly so when we go the start the dryer, the whole room fills with steam.
On top of all of that, the house has been on the market since Sept. So every time there is a showing, we clean up (and I mean like REALLY clean) and haul the kids out. I knew there might be a small overlap in when our lease ended and then the new house was ready but I told myself that if I took care of this house and put up with the issues and allowed showings, the landlords would be flexible with us. But they are not going to let us stay. They say the house will sell better without us here (the real issue it has not sold as it is overpriced and needs a lot of work!). We have to be out April 30th and the new house will be done sometime in June. So we have to somehow find a place to live for a month. Parents are not an option and we moved here in May and don't know anyone well enough. I just hope we can find somewhere and I feel so stupid for thinking that I would get anywhere by taking such good care of this house for them. They are aware that we have no where really to go and that we have a 3 year and a 18 month old.
Are anywhere near an extended stay hotel or a cabin area? My SIL/BIL built a house and ran into some delays. It wasn't done when their apt. lease was up so they had nowhere to go for a month so they did an extended stay hotel. It wasn't as unaffordable as you'd think (but still not great), still comfy and the hotel was full of ameninities to keep the kids occupied. They actually enjoyed it.

I was going to suggest the same thing. There are a few here in town (because there is a small air force base still here) and they aren't bad. My cousin and his wife and 2 kids used one for awhile when my cousin was working this direction for limited periods of time. They lived in far western Kansas at the time so it was a 7 hour drive for them and easier to just stay extended periods at the hotel.
Call a few places, find a storage unit for the non-essential items (furniture, lots of toys and clothes) and try and make it an adventure for the kiddos.
Check on craigslist too, there are sometimes short term furnished rentals so you could put your stuff into storage and not need to worry about moving it / packing twice.
I know someone in a similar situation, and landlord agreed to them staying for a rent increase. It evened out by saving them the cost of moving two more times. Something else to consider.

I usually just lurk here so I can't believe I'm actually posting this but stay anyway. It would take them that long to go through the court process to evict you. I'm not saying I would do that, I just thought of it as an option. Oh, I'm so bad.

I offered a rate increse but money is not the issue for them. They seem to be quite wealthy. I put an add on craigslist- hopefully something pops up! Thanks for your thoughts
Holly: Eeek! I couldn't do that. I would be too scared.
I have a friend who also stayed in a hotel during her overlap... they had two bedrooms (with doors) and a small kitchen area. The hotel even had a pool which was a big perk for them. Talk to the hotel manager and see if they'd be willing to work out a deal.
