Even if that were to happen, who cares or even notices?! You're out there and that in and of itself is kicking ass!
True confessions: every year I've signed up for a race that, based on last year's results, I should be on the podium. Well guess what...it never happens. Races grow every year. I think last year was the first year they offered the 10miler, & the weather was so bad last year that tons of people DNS. Don't worry about last year's results. This year will be totally different.

I wish I were in town this weekend - I'd do it with you and then there'd be no way you'd be last. You will do great though, and I guarantee we will all be proud of you whether you're first, last, or smack dab in the middle. Have a fantastic time!

You will do much better than you think! I thought I was going to be DFL at the 10k I did in November. Heck, for a good part of it, even the 76 year old speed walker was ahead of me, but I just kept my pace and passed a few (ok, 10) people by the end. You will finish what you started, and it will be great!
Didn't mean to post and run before, but I have been out with a friend and H (had a nice dinner and saw half of West Side Story but poor H was falling asleep in his seat because he was up early this morning).
I was definitely having a moment earlier, but you guys made me feel so much better. Thanks for the support, truly.
I was the last one in my age group at the 70.3 Worlds in September. I was right smack in the middle (50 out of 100) after the swim, then proceeded to get passed by 40 of them. The other 10 DNF'd.
Dead last is better than DNF. DNF is better than DNS!

When I was a senior in high school, I ran the state cross country race and finished dead last.
All these years later (and I'm no spring chicken, so it's been a while!) what I remember is not that I was last. It's that in my first year of track, on one of the toughest courses in the state, I FINISHED. In a respectable time. Ahead of all of the ladies state-wide who either dropped out mid-course (and a lot did, especially at the big hill known as "The Bowl") or who stayed home and didn't even try to run it in the first place.
So IMO, you finish the race, you've won no matter what place you come in! Good luck and have fun!
