This morning I raced for the first time in > 6 months, and running for the first time in 16 months. It was my first 4 mile race, so no time to beat - I just went out to run it solidly.
I was banking on finishing around 38 minutes (9:30 pace). Instead I did it in 35:11.7 (about 8:48 pace). I just did what felt good.
My mile splits from my Garmin were: 8:24 8:54 8:54 8:49
I honestly didn't think I could sustain sub-9, and spent easily half the race needlessly worrying that the wheels were going to come off. I wish I hadn't, because I was fine. I could've gone a little faster.
I missed racing! I miss having a better handle on what I can do. But I'm on my way back
Bonus:
Calvin & Puppy Derkins came to watch. Puppy D made ALL THE FRIENDS.
