I usually do intervals - 5 run/2 walk. I've finished 6 half marathons this way, my PR was 2:48, so not fabulous but not bad either. I can definitely do a lot more distance this way than I can running straight - I think 2 miles is as far as I've ever run without walking.
Check out his book (maybe at a local library?) and see if it's for you!
I run 0.5 miles, walk for 30 seconds. I've finished 5 half marathons and my fastest was 2hr10min. I'm in Florida, and having regular walk breaks has saved many runs for me when it is brutally hot and humid.

My running group does this. I run for 8 minutes and walk for 1. I am trying to get back to the 10/1 that the rest of the group does. My training partner has completed multiple ironmans and her times have improved using this method.
I do a run/walk/run at about a 4 min run to 1 min walk interval. I've done two half marathons this way and finished my fastest one in 2:12 and the other in 2:17. I think it helps me mentally keep going on those long runs because it breaks a long distance into manageable segments. I also believe I run the 'run' parts faster this way than if I was just running non-stop.
