This was my first race ever, so I was pretty hip hoppity with nerves. I woke up around 5am, even though the race wouldn’t start until 8am. We got to the course with plenty of time to spare; it is where I do all of my training runs so I was very familiar with the course. My sister flew in from New Jersey to our first 10k together, and three of my other sister’s were doing the 5k.
It was a really cool race; all women, and it was called She Is Beautiful. Lots of pink and green for St. Patrick’s Day. It was smaller too, which I appreciated. 3k. We got in line, and then took off. I’ve been having problems with the tendons in my left foot, and took off my Thursday run to see if they would heal up at all. I basically had pain throughout the race from both feet (my right heel has been bugging me too)- but I maintained a steady pace throughout and finished with a time of 00:54:56.032! Splits were 9:09, 8:42, 8:53, 8:34, 8:32, 8:37. But I normally run an average pace of 9:30, so I’m pretty happy with how I did. I wanted to finish in under an hour and I did that. :-)
Favorite signs were of two kids holding a sign that said, “Go faster mom. We are freezing.” and the Dad was holding a sign that said, “You are NOT near the end. No one made you do it.” But they were smiling and cheering everyone on. :-)
It was sort of weird. It seems like everyone says that the reason you run is to do the races. To get the high and stuff, but when I crossed the line, I just felt more of like it was a job well done. I wasn’t ebullient or on a high or anything. Anyone else like that? Aside from the faster time, it could have just been a training run in regards to my emotions. Am I just dead inside? :-) I have the half now to start training for again... less than a month away. Holy cow.
Great job; that is fast!!! All those stroller miles pay off!
Very cool that your sisters raced too, & those signs are hilarious. You're not dead inside, lol! Sometimes I get emotional, sometimes I don't, and sometimes the emotions come a few days later.
That is awesome for your first race, seriously! I also don't think you're dead inside, haha! The last 5k I ran, I actually thought "can this be over yet!?" You made great time and you're going to rock that Half!!!
