I think there were a few of you running today - how did it go? Boy was it cold! The water I picked up at the first fluid station was a cup of ice! And I almost fell on an icy patch where I guess a cooler of water must have spilled in the road.
Great race overall though - the aid stations were all awesome. Crowd support seemed down from last year, but it WAS freezing, so the crowds get a pass.
No PR for me today. I was at PR pace by over a minute at the 15K mark, but I was sick all week and it caught up with me bigtime at mile 11 and I ended up 29 seconds behind my pr. Oh well, there's always next year!
It *was* freaking cold! Scary that you almost slipped! I took off my fleece hat and gloves at mile 4 but got chilly again during some windy parts of Times Square. That said, I loved this race. It was my third half and I PR'd by 8 minutes, finishing at 2:15 and change. That's a 16 minute improvement over my first half last May and I was ecstatic to see the difference.
I was really impressed by the organization and the volunteers. Bag drop and pickup was a total breeze. I loved the portapotties in the corrals, too. I was hanging around a while for the start and I peed 4 times. Since you were dying to know. Because of the pretty strict corrals, the beginning also didn't feel too crowded to me. I am always weaving at the beginning of NYRR races, so this was great.

Nice job on the pr! See I did think the beginning was super crowded and I couldn't get moving the way I wanted to for the first mile or two.
I was a little annoyed that no one was really checking who was going into what corral - there were a number of people with bibs in the 20000s in my corral (16000s). And they kept announcing that if you weren't in your corral at 7, you would have to start at the back - that didn't happen either. Oh well, minor complaints, I really do love this race.
That's annoying. I'm a huge rule follower, so that would bug the crap out of me. So do you think you'll enter again next year? I liked the race a lot but I did not love all the cold weather training leading up to it. Not sure if I'm cut out for another March half. I did love racing on St. Patrick's Day, though. Totally downed a Guinness at 10:30 am.

LOL I'm also a huge rule follower so it was killing me inside a little bit, but I guess being towards the back of the start, nobody really cared. Oh well.
I might do it again next year, but I'm not really sure. The concrete on the west side highway kills my ankles - they're so sore to the touch today, but I may be annoyed enough by my 4th 5k split time to try again. My first 3 splits were all in the 29:30s, but the fourth was a little over 31 and that's where I lost my pr. Redemption may be in order.
As far as the weather, it was definitely harder to train this year with the weather. The trails I run on were covered in ice and/or snow for all but one long run, and it was almost always so darn cold. Last year was so much easier!
2:08 for me. About 1 min off my over 30 PR (15 off my overall), but not bad for being undertrained (basically did 70% of my long runs and 50% of my midweek runs). I liked the race a lot and will definitely enter the lotto again! The corral set up with the portapotties was EXCELLENT, and while the finish was crazy packed at my finish time, I got to the subway pretty fast. I thought the bags at the end kind of sucked though. A drink and an apple? how about a bagel NYC?!
You forgot the NASTY recovery Gatorade - god I hate that stuff. The stuff in the bag was the same as last year, except last year it was in a plastic bag and not one to keep. A bagel would have been so so good. I inhaled the pretzels in about 5 seconds.
I was really happy because I had been PLAGUED by horrible stomach problems during/after my first two half marathons. For this one, I felt awesome -- until, a few hours later, I tried that nasty Gatorade recovery drink. OMG. Stomach heaving.

Was yours a green apple or something like that? It was so gross. I knew from last year it was nasty - man was that quite the surprise last year..."oh gatorade, great! :: chug "" Eww eww ewwww!!! - but I wasn't feeling quite right after the race and knew I needed the protein and everything else in it so I chugged it, but I swear I could still taste it on my tongue hours later. Yuck
Way to go, ladies! What a beautiful race. Nothing beats running through Times Square. Definitely an awesome experience.
Man it was freezing at the start! I don't think my legs ever truly warmed up. But between a nagging injury and a head cold I managed to PR from my first half in October by 3 minutes (2:06). I'm happy with that
Now if my flight out of LaGuardia could just stop getting delayed I could go home and sleep in my own bed...

Nice job on the PR! I thought I had mine in the bag because I knew I was ahead of last year at the 15k, but then....not. Oh well, there's always next year! I hope your flight takes off eventually and you get home soon.
We had a fantastic visit, thanks! And you're the first person to ever call me speedy
Another flight delay, we've been sitting on the plane for over an hour without moving and officially missed our connecting flight home now. I need a beer. /end rant
