If you want to go somewhere on the Gulf Coast I would go to Gulf Shores or Orange Beach in Alabama. So much prettier than Texas beaches. We go every year.

I'm not set on the gulf coast we just live in it so I was thinking it might be cheaper/easier since it was closer. But we have the SW points so I guess that opens up more options.
I love it there. We always say we should try somewhere new, but we always end up back in Orange Beach because we enjoy it so much!

It's very pretty, relaxing, family friendly, but there are some good restaurants and bars. LuLu's is awesome. Families go there but they also have excellent drinks and a neat bar. Their food is awesome too. We also like The Pink Pony. That's more of a bar. Huge nachos and excellent fried pickles there!! For sea food we like The Shrimp Basket...super casual.

Sorry I hit send too soon. There is also an outlet mall nearby in Foley if you have a rainy day or want to get off the beach for a bit. We drive every year from Dallas and its about 11 hours.

I second Gulf Shores/Orange Beach... its beautiful... or Destin. My ILs own a condo in GS...and its a 6 hour drive for us vs 8 or so to Destin although Destin's water is slightly more pretty than GS. In terms of things to do... well its the beach... so beach, pools, hot tubs, sun and sand... great seafood to eat, Pensacola is home of the Blue Angels so you can catch a practice, THe Wharf has great shopping and eating,

Oh yeah and the aviation museum in Pensacola too. That's neat too. I actually ran into my ex there last year since he's stationed there now. Awkward lol

The keys, definitely. Key West is fun; there's always something going on, but the rest of the keys are beautiful, too. And yes, I might be biased because I only live a few hours away, but we went on our honeymoon, before we lived here, and I always say I was one more glass of wine away from calling my boss and quitting my job to move there.
NOLA is fun, though it's been awhile since I've been, but I just liked the more laid-back vibe of the islands, better. I guess it depends on what you prefer.

If you're wanting relaxing beach, I would do Key West or Gulf Shores. Both are probably nutso right now with spring breakers though.
If it was me, I'd probably do NOLA just because I love the tours and the food. There is so much history and sight-seeing, plantations, museums, just walking around and looking at the architecture. Just try to go before it's 100˚ with 200% humidity.

Would you recommend any other part of the keys over key west? Like I said, we would prefer not to rent a car but can if necessary.
We also have Marriott hotel points and I know they have a beach front property in KW...
Hmm, well, for the most variety of things to do, without renting a car, yeah, Key West is your best bet. Driving on and off of KW can be a PITA because of traffic. Plus, using your reward points is a huge bonus!

It really depends on how warm the season is. End of May is usually warm but not miserable yet. Sometimes, you get a fluke really hot week though. We were able to have an outdoor birthday party the last weekend of May last year without dying, but the afternoons are pretty warm.
