Sorry in advance if this gets long. I woke up the other morning and did my morning routine. I got to the feeding of my cats and I realized something was wrong.
1. They always bother me while i am doing my business for water from the tap
2. they always follow me around the house
3. they always come when i give them breakfast.
They mostly do all three or two out of three. So, I start shaking the pounce to get them out of their hiding places; still no kitties. Ok maybe they ran out the door when H went to work. I shake the treats out into the apartment hallway still no cats. I am no longer half asleep at this point. I am in panic mode. I go outside and see that my screen that covers my window is pushed out on the ground. I start frantically walking the parking lot shaking treats: no cats. I can feel my heart going, i start to do the cough choking about to cry noise. "They're gone, got eaten, I'm never going to see them again. I'm such a horrible pet parent. How the hell did H not notice this when he left for work? How long have they been gone?" thank god they aren't declawed!'
I go inside get my phone to call H. He doesn't answer. So, of course I call my mom. Que hysterical crying as soon as my mom says hello. She can't understand a word i'm saying. She is also at the doctor so, she give the phone to my sister. By the time I get back outside Bruin my tabby is up on the window sill. Cali my Calico is on the ground under the window. Trying to carry both cats into my house at the same time was not an easy task. Cali (weights 12+lbs) just relaxed in my arms she looked scared. Bruin (weighs 9.9lbs more muscle) decided she wanted to be a wiggle worm. Cali also smelled like she had been peed on. I had just done their flee treatment two days prior so i had to google if I could even bathe her. (which they both got baths that day)
When finally called H he said he thought the cats where in the house. He was in a hurry because he was late he couldn't remember. I have no idea how long they where outside for. They looked super scared when i found them. Yet, they still beg and cry to go outside. I have owned cats all my life and this has never happened to me. My only guess was that bruin had pushed the screen out or the cats where boxing and they rolled out it. Bruin of course was still able to jump back through the window once she was out. Cali, I have no idea why but she doesn't really jump high. So, she was stuck.
So now we put a fan in the window. The window is vertical instead of horizontal. But, bruin tried to spider kitty her way up it that night. It didnt work so, she hasn't tried it since.
I have the computer room window open today to air it out. I close the window when I leave the room I. I'm glad I did because, Bruin has tried to push her head through the screen twice today when I was sitting in here.
That would be terrifying! I'm so glad that you found them!
I'm paranoid about our screens falling out (we rent and can't improve them), so we only open the windows a couple inches even though we could really use the extra air flow.

How terrifying!! I'm so glad they came back on their own and that you were out there running around looking for them when they did show back up so you could scoop up Cali and bring them back in. A happy ending to a terrifying few moments!

Man oh man, I'm so glad to hear there is a happy ending!!
When we were moving into our old house, DH was bringing a couch into one of the bedrooms, and Mae spazzed and jumped through the screen. Luckily, I was able to run outside and grab her.
