I still consider myself a newbie runner but I am tired of carrying my iphone in an armband, plus the inaccuracy is driving me crazy, I think I want to invest in a watch. I just want something to show me pace, mileage, time, and whatever else I should be watching but just don't know it yet! Any suggestions on something basic, not complicated, preferably under $150? Thanks!
I have a Garmin 405cx. The touch bezel acts up occasionally, so I would ideally choose a different model.
It is not dead-accurate. Occasionally the mapping isn't dead-on, and the pace certainly isn't. Since the pace seems to be a projection of what you'll finish the present mile in, rather than a "you're going X min/mile RIGHT NOW," I didn't find it all that useful until I was up around 3-4 miles and more per run. It's nice to keep track of heart rate, time, and routes though.
I just got a Garmin 605, and I love it because it tracks everything. However, Garmin makes a very attractive entry model - the Forerunner 10- that tracks distance, only, and people who have it seem to love it.
Here's an article. Note it comes in much prettier colors than the black pictured. I actually went back and forth between the 10 and the 605 because I liked how the 10 looked.

I have a Garmin 410 and love it. It shows actual pace. It seems that they have updated the bezel since the 405, as I have never had a problem with it. Just lock it when you run if you accidentally touch it when you run.
