I'm pretty new to running, as in <5 years and a handful of races here and there. I was first fitted for Mizuno Wave Riders and kept them through I think 3 versions. I didn't like the most recent one, the 16s?, so I branched out and was fitted for Asics for the first time, Gel-Cumulus 14s, in January.
They were fine on the treadmill but I ran outside recently on a warm day...and I.HATE.THEM. The balls of my feet literally screamed with every step on pavement, my toes went numb even though there's plenty of room in the toe box, and I was in pain for days afterward. I later searched reviews for the model and found similar complaints as mine (well maybe not as melodramatic ). My bad for not checking beforehand.
I was visiting my parents last weekend and on a whim I went to the LRS in their town. So now I'm a pronator and need a stability shoe (I always thought I was neutral/plus???). I picked up a pair of Nikes, which I have NEVER thought to get. I'm dubious.
I'm just bitching because WHYYYY do shoe manufacturers HAVE to change their shoes?? I was fine in my Wave Rider 13s/14s/15s, they worked for me, and this whole fitting/refitting contradictory business is just bumming me out.
Longtime runners - do you just stock up on your favorite model? Does anyone feel my pain?
Anyway, shoes change and it sucks. Brooks cancelled my shoes entirely last year and I went into a pit of despair. I got ITBS in the shoes the recommended I try. Fortunately they brought my shoe back and I'm happy again (as are my feet).

I swear I'm still trying to find the right damn shoe.
I first had Asic's Gel ones (forget which one) and they were okay but made my toes go numb. Got Saucony's and returned them after the first run. They messed up my left foot for literally a month. So nasty. I got Asics to replace the Saucony's but I still get gnarly blisters on the insides of my feet and numb toes. If I were wealthy I would just go get new shoes and re-fitted, but I'm not made out of money. Bah humbug. Now, I just always moleskin my feet where the blisters are (they are pretty big blisters too that never seem to heal right) and tape them and it makes running okay. PITA though.
Hope you find shoes that fit you and work for you!
I hate how companies change their shoes. It makes it really difficult. They changed my Asics 2170s to 2000s and I HATE the 2000s. Once I wear through my current 2170s I'm going to have to go to the LRS and get fitted all over again. Grr.

i hate the 2000's too! they are the worst shoe "upgrade" i have ever experienced! the 2160s and 2170 great!
