You're fine w/ your plan for meds in advance. It really was a pretty painless test. Mild cramps when they injected the dye, but other than that pretty easy (for me, different for everybody, so I think def take some pain med in advance).
The radiologist that did mine was able to see right away that "things look good" and "tubes seem clear" so I'm guessing they'll be able to give you some idea right away, and you'll get a more detailed answer when you follow up with your doctor.
Good luck! Treat yourself to a yummy coffee on your way home.
OH! And. One thing I wish I knew in advance - TAKE A PANTY LINER! All they had to give me was a jumbo-just-had-a-baby-maxi pad. HUGE. I felt like I was waddling all the way back to my train. omg.
My ob/gyn is doing the test, so I don't know how that works? It is being done in Interventional Radiology though.
Ahh, ok, yeah then s/he may need a radiologist to look at it. My guess would be that if there's something that really stands out she'll be able to tell you but a radiologist will be able to see the finer points. Good luck - let us know how it goes.

my ob did the test too and he was able to read it right there.
FWIW it might hurt a bit more if they find a blockage. The cervical clamping & insertion of the tube (for the dye to go through) didn't hurt more than a pap, but as the dye was injected I did get a heavy cramping feeling & then there was a small blockage that my dr cleared by putting more dye into my uterus which resulted in more cramping - and that SUCKED.

So that cleared up your blockage? Were you successful in ttc after that?

Not yet. The HSG was last cycle, and that one was a bust . This one? who knows! Still in the 2ww.
Apparently the blockage was small - probably just some extra mucous or something. I think if it was more serious it wouldn't have cleared. I saw it on the screen while it was happening, and it definitely cleared.

Sorry I am responding so late, you are probably already at your appointment. Just wanted to say I take part in HSG's as part of my job and where I work there is a radiologist who runs the fluoroscope during the study and captures the images. They always tell the patients what they see right away and usually discuss next steps with them before they leave depending on what their results are. Sorry I didn't get to respond earlier! Hope it went well
Ugh, I'm sorry the news wasn't better. I agree, even seeing some movement and a treatment plan being developed can be a relief. I hope things work out as quickly as possible for you.

I'm sorry the results weren't better. But at least you have some answers now. I'm glad you came back to update us, I was thinking about you. (lol that sounds creepy... but I swear it's not!)
