Has anyone used an OPK to test?

I have read that OPKs can detect pregnancy.  Has anyone tried it?

It works. I tried it when I had no pregnancy tests and lots of symptoms. I got a positive and then confirmed on a pregnancy test.

What did you see? Two dark lines?

From what I've read it can be used but if its + it doesn't mean you are PG. I'd skip it and take a regular pg test.

It makes sense that they would work, although it seems unreliable.

I suppose if you wanted to avoid getting the dreaded BFN, you could convince yourself that the OPK gave you a positive, lol.

I had the digital OPKs that display a smiley face.  I hadn't peed on one since I had gotten the positive that the surge had occurred. I used one 2-3 days after my missed period. There was an immediate smiley face.

The hormone that opks test, LH, spikes before ovulation, and then drops off. If you get your period, it stays down. If you are pg, it apparently increases again. It's not as conclusive as an HPK, but it supposedly works.

I had 2 positive opks 2 weeks apart and thought maybe it was a bfp, but it wasn't. I would just rather take a pregnancy test to know for sure.

me too. If I didn't have any hpt's around I might, and then run out for some hpts if the opk was positive.

out of curiosity, cricket, when that happened, did you get your period 2 weeks after the 2nd pos opk? I have a friend who's in that situation right now. The pos opk is right when she usually gets her period, so I told her to take an hpt to be sure, but it was negative. I told her it was probably just a wonky long cycle. I guess time will tell.

I've used an OPK to test (it was even 6 months expired), because I had quite a few of them initially before getting pregnancy tests. It was positive and I am pregnant.

I found a good description of how it works, since the OPK searches for LH and the pregnancy test searches for hCG. 

You might want to just order some of the cheap dip tests. I think I got 30 for $5 on Amazon.

I got my period 6 days later.
