I've been working on C25k and I did W4D1 last night. My feet were absolutely killing me, but mostly in my arch. This happened on W3D3 but it wasn't as intense. I don't run much, but when I do for any period, my feet hurt the worst. I've gone between the treadmill, road running, and trails. I've been fitted for shoes twice, wear the arch support socks (which help a ton) and I've tried different tightening and loosening of my laces. Is this something that just comes from strengthening the foot muscle? I'm wondering if I should go to the running store and ask them a bunch of questions but I don't want to go and have them tell me to just suck it up. DH (a runner) said I may need to look into getting inserts and my mom (who has always had bad foot pain) suggested a podiatrist.
Also, an AW: I've never made it past W3D3 in my previous attempts so I super excited and don't want to lose momentum
If you can feel the tendon look up plantar fasciitis. There are stretches you can do to help, you can get arches for your shoes, but for me it took correcting my underlying problem by seeing a physical therapist. I have a blog post this week that talks about it. The PT said that it's usually something in your stride/how you're holding yourself that causes it (such as weak glutes/hips, or my problem was a tilted pelvis).

pixy0stix - Did you just find a PT or go through your GP first? What your blog post described was exactly how my foot felt along with the sensation that I was walking on needles. lessel - I think the chronic pain is what is making me 2nd guess it just being a strength issue. I've had to strengthen my calves up a bit because they were hurting but this is a different kind of pain. I'm so glad to be done with Week 3! Congrats on finishing it
I was actually seeing the PT because I had rolled my ankle (missed a couple of stairs on the way down) and sprained it, plus hurt a joint and cracked a bone in my foot. Towards the tail end of my sessions I mentioned I was running again and that my ankle didn't hurt, but that the PF was acting up again. He suggested I make another appointment and come in so he could test a couple of things.
Just because of that (the casual "just make an appt") I'm guessing you wouldn't need to go through anyone to schedule a visit. Although check with your insurance to see if they need a referral. (I did get to them originally through an orthopedist who I went to for my ankle.)
It's weird, but I don't think PT is the standard treatment. I've mentioned it to doctors before and they mentioned the foot inserts, stretching, rolling on the tennis ball, etc. but never PT treatment. I have no idea if they'd suggest it or not.
I went through PT for my plantar fasciitis. Inserts didn't really work and the night boot helped somewhat. I wish that I would have went to a doctor and nipped it when I first started feeling pain because almost three years later I am still having issues. I hope you get it resolved soon.
