Looks like a lot of you like running skirts. Shorts always ride up on me so I steer clear of those but now I feel like in should try a skirt. Which do you prefer and why? Do the shorts underneath ride up? I try to run before the heat gets bad but in FL but that doesn't always work out well LOL!

I have yet to find a running skirt that has true compression (ie, no ride up) shorts underneath it. But, I've only been shopping at Target. I'm pretty sure LLL and some others have skirts with real compression shorts under them, but so far, I've not been ready to pony up the money for them.
However, I would not consider any of the ones I have to be true compression shorts. I like the Skirt Sports ones better than my others in terms of riding up, but I'm not going to say they never ever do.
I love them. If they ride up,I slap on some body glide. And if they ride up, no one sees it. Running skirts for life!
I am currently in love with the ones from Costco. It does not have true compression shorts, but it is cute and dh thinks I look hot. Win. Win. (And an extra win for makers of body glide)
I can't get over the look of running skirts. I think I look ridiculous in them, as do most other people (sorry, skirt lovers).
Whatevah whatevah!
maybe it's because I grew up playing tennis, but I love running skirts and I think they are more flattering on my legs than shorts. The only running-specific skirts I have are randos from the clearance rack and I like them all. I just glide the thighs and have never had a problem (up to 2hrs, at least).
I bought a nike running skirt and I hate it, the shorts underneath ride up and I spent my entire run trying to adjust them. I didn't know Costco had any @mrschicken--are they kirkland brand?

I have the LLL Pace Setter skirt. The ruffles on the butt are a bit ridiculous, but it stays put! I've run two marathons in it and never had any major issues with riding up or chafing. I do think it's pricy for what it is though.
I also just ordered this one from Athleta: athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=93758&vid=1&pid=405138012 It's a narrower cut with no ruffles and it didn't seem to flounce around like the ruffly ones when I tried it on. I will report back once I try it out on the road!

Maybe if I saw your gams in a running skirt, my mind would be changed!

Lol. Highly unlikely.
Like gumi said, though, it does feel so badass to kill it in a skirt. This weekend I ran a 5k with some friends, and one of the guys is one of my husband's former athletes. Just out of college, pretty fit guy. Sooo, when I rolled past him in my skirt, I felt like such a bamf. The power of the skirt, I'm telling you.

I literally just checked out that Athleta skirt online because PopSugar (via FB feed) told me it would make me look skinny, lol. Then they posted a picture of Giselle post baby and I dropped some expletives.

Ha! I am sure it looks great on Giselle. I do think that because it's straighter/narrower it's more slimming than some other skirts though. They only had pink and blue at the store when I tried it on, but I ordered the black.

I have a different Athleta running skirt, the Swagger Skirt. It does have ruffles, but it's super cute. I bought it in the Tall length, even though I'm not tall, for a little more coverage. The extra length also helps with the riding up problem. I can also get away with wearing it around town on casual summer days.

I tried that one on too and it was definitely cute!

I was pretty staunchly anti-running skirts for ages (bought one at an expo but only wore to run errands b/c I couldn't bring myself to actually wear it when I was running running) but am warming up to the idea more recently. That Athleta skirt that shelbyann posted is REAL cute...a store is opening up in Cincinnati soon and I may have to go there when I visit my sister and try one on. That is, once Junior comes out because I do NOT think a running skirt is in the cards right now-the only thing that IS is a damn support belt to hold my belly up/in place when I run.
I have 3 lululemon run skirts and I kind of hate them. They are super cute on but the shorts underneath are uncomfortable. (I know a ton of people who love them so maybe they just dont fit me right). The only run skirt that i actually run in is from skirt sports. It just has a brief under it so its super comfortable.
I really want to try a running skirt. Every one I have tried on has been to short for me to feel safe running in. I am 5'8 so not super tall, but right between avg and tall. I tried the LLL tall skirt on, but it felt to heavy but I loved the length on it. I always think how bad a$$ the girls running by in skirts look. I wanna be bad ass too!
I'm loving this post. H&F, how you've changed over the years. I remember way back when people thought I was crazy for running in skirts. Nice to see others migrated to the dark side.
OP, I actually loathe compression shorts underneath skirts. Brief bottoms are my favorite. I get most of mine from RunningSkirts.com .
I have been eyeing some of those skirts. I have to buy all new gear for this summer, and love a few of those bright colored ones. How do they run? Any you really suggest?
I want to like running skirts. I like the way they look on other people, but on me they look ridiculous. I need the version for gals with a big booty. The one running skirt I own is always significantly higher in the back than in the front.
I have two LLL skirts, a Pace Setter and a Speed (I get the Tall length, even though I'm only 5'5") and one Nike skirt that I don't like as much. It's a heavier material and doesn't have any pockets. The LLLs have three!
This past spring I raced a 5K in my hometown wearing one of the LLLs. I did overhear some not-so-quiet snickers and comments as I walked up to registration (I may or may not have been also wearing a ruffle-backed LLL shirt...), but then I won my 10-year-span age group and finished in 23min, so there's that. As I was hauling around the track at the finish line, I said to some older guy I passed, "Don't worry, I'm not in your age group." (angel)
I have lots of skirts I have the one I am wearing in my siggie, that is Nikey. I got it at Marshalls. I have a LLL Full Stride one in black that I got a few months back in WMTM. I have a Reebok one that I think is actually a tennis skirt that I got at Dicks, and I have the Costco one mentioned upthread. I love them all and honestly have a hard time wearing shorts now!
