DH likes the farmhouse style w/long panel beadboard, long panel moonlight windows and cast iron hardware. (it's the first door that pops up under this link www.amarr.com/residential/collection/oak_summit)
I'm wondering if that style matches our house. I'm sort of drawn to the recessed panels with long arched thames windows _ cast iron hardware. (like the fourth pic under this link www.amarr.com/residential/collection_gallery/oak_summit)
Thoughts??
Unrelated thought - should I paint the white downspout against the garage a terra cotta color so it blends with the brick? I never noticed how much it stood out.
I think the one your husband picked will go better with the house than the flat recessed panels. I don't know why exactly maybe because the flat recessed reminds me more of a craftsman style which your house isn't. Bead board wainscotting would period appropriate for your home wouldn't it? It's just called "farmhouse" but I think the style is a lot more versatile than that.
I know people were up in the air about the handles. We weren't big fans of the Clopay options so we thought we'd just get the doors without them and buy handles later if we decided we wanted them. They just screw on the front and don't come pre-installed from the manufacturer. We've decided we actually like them better without but I think that's because we're not really going for a true carriage style just something prettier than the basic door. Plus our doors are dark walnut colored so black handles wouldn't be very noticeable. So you could always go that route if you're still up in the air about it.

Thanks for the kind words re: the house! It's a work in progress - we're planning on installing a walkway that wraps from the driveway to the front door plus more landscaping (less lawn).
That's what I thought about the handles, Fox. They're just screwed on. Maybe I'll ask the contractor to hold them up or something before he installs them? I think DH and I both like them. For a double door, it's such a vast expanse of white - I like how the handles break up the look.
Funny, they put the "farmhouse" looking door on a craftsman house. My favorite doors are the really expensive ones, but we just can't swing it. The house was built in 1971, but I guess the style of our house is Georgian Colonial.
I have no clue about the door style, but I think painting the downspout to blend with the brick is a good idea. I would get wood look doors for the same reason, but as I said before, I am not a fan of prominent garage doors.
